How’d It Go?
EMS OPEN HOUSE
Although the turnout for the EMS Open House was
not as abundant as in past years, it was still a big success and we had a beautiful spring night. Several organizations participated in the Open House: American Heart Association, Red Cross, Poison Center,
CMH, Menomonee Falls Police & Fire Dispatchers
and of course our very own EMS personnel. I would
like to thank everyone that helped make this a success. Also, thank you to everyone who donated treats.
EMS Banquet
The EMS Banquet was held on Thursday, May 22
at Davians. EMTs enjoyed a dinner of chicken and
BBQ pork with the fixing’s; and I heard if you arrived early enough, Dr. Reinke was buying drinks.
After dinner awards were presented and we played
several rounds of EMS bingo. Thank you to CMH
for the gift cards and the banquet.
Lt. Laurie Frey
Applauding Our Members
I would like to give a good round of applause
to all those personnel from Station 2 that were
able to help me with 2752 during the Memorial
Day Parade. They were Chris Berndsen,
Brandon Schauz, Pam Holseth, and Matt
Barth. Without their help we would not have
been able to staff 2752.
Thanks Guys for the AWESOME JOB!!!!!
LT. Hayes
We would like to continue the applause for these
Station 1 & 2 members whose participation in the
parade was appreciated:
Patrick Keller, Justin Klos, Todd Schmechel,
Mike Barrett, James Hammerle,
Rick Weber, Kurt Smith, Dan
Williams, Lt. Laurie Frey, Todd
Spence, Ryan McMenamin and
Steve Rehse.

Do You Know?
1. Half of all Americans live within 50 miles of
what?
2. Most boat owners name their boats. What is the
most popular boat name requested?
3. If you were to spell out numbers, how far would
you have to go until you would find the letter "A"?
4. What do bulletproof vests, fire escapes, windshield wipers, and laser printers all have in common?
5. What is the only food that doesn't spoil?
6. Which day are there more collect calls than any
other day of the year?
(Answers are in the middle of
the middle column of this page.)
Wait, There’s More
In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were
secured on bed frames by ropes. When you
pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened,
making the bed firmer to sleep on. Hence the
phrase... "Goodnight, sleep tight."
• It was the accepted practice in Babylon
4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-inlaw with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a
honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey
month, which we know today as the honeymoon.
• In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and
quarts... So in old England, when
customers got unruly, the bartender
would yell at them "Mind your pints
and quarts, and settle down." It's
where we get the phrase "mind your P's and
Q's"
• Many years ago in England, pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim, or handle,
of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service.
"Wet your whistle" is the phrase inspired by
this practice.
• Don't delete this just because it looks
weird. Believe it or not, you can read it:

05/05/08 – Garbage truck fire in front of the residence at W176
N5439 Highridge Dr. 2772 arrived on scene first and found a garbage truck parked on the street with heavy smoke and visible
flames coming from the top of the garbage compactor area. 2772
secured the hydrant to the north of the truck and pulled a 150' preconnect line. 2781 crew joined 2772 crew with additional 200'
preconnect line. Truck operator opened the back of the compactor
area and water was applied. Garbage was dispensed onto street
behind truck and water was applied as it was dispensed. Pitch
forks and pike poles then pulled garbage apart to check for hot
spots and completely extinguish fire. An additional dumpster was
brought to the scene and a wheel loader from the Village DPW
was used to pick up the garbage and place into new dumpster.
Only damage to truck was to the compactor area and that only
appeared to be scorched marks
05/18/08 - Report of a woodpile on fire in N9200 block of Water
St. Upon arrival there was a large woodpile burning about 10' x
15' x 6' tall and a large tree on fire. 2761 crew pulled 150' preconnect and began extinguishment. Booster line was pulled off of
2781 to assist with extinguishment and 2791 dispatched for a water supply. Pike poles were used to pull apart woodpile. Roskopfs RV personnel were called so crews could enter into fenced
area. Preconnect line switched from 2761 to 2791. Fence section
was removed with permission to gain access to back side of pile.
Roskopfs assisted in moving the woodpile by using
frontend loader. Fire extinguished. Resident Kari Baxter stated
they were burning cardboard in an outdoor fireplace earlier in the
day, which was located next to the woodpile. They extinguished
the fire in the outdoor fireplace, however, later they noticed the
fire in the woodpile. Unknown what time the fire in the woodpile
started. Occupants tried to extinguish with buckets of water prior
to calling 911. Occupants advised of burning regulations.
05/24/08 - Report of a grass fire along the tracks behind Frito Lay
on Kohler Ln. Upon arrival found four fires, two behind Frito Lay
and two to the west. 2792 took Indian tanks and grass brooms and
began to extinguish the bigger of the fires. 2781 took care of the
fire behind Frito Lay. More personnel were requested through
dispatch. 2792 started putting the fire out when the wind picked
up causing the fire to spread. I asked command to send 2781 to
their location to use booster line. Fire then extinguished. At the
same time 2761 was told to take care of the second fire which was
behind Tom’s Trailers. All fires extinguished by fire personnel.
Ignition factor was train that had recently passed through.
05/24/08 – Report of a gas leak in the basement at a residence on
Allen Ave. Fire crews found a gas clothes dryer with duct tape
around the gas line at the connection to the dryer. 2761 turned off
the gas line before the dryer. The owner reported that she moved
the dryer to clean its vent. The line separated, and she wrapped
the line with duct tape. 2761 advised the owner that we turned off
the gas line. She was also advised to have the line to the dryer
repaired.

Pack will now be stored on top of the 3” static load.
A step ladder will be placed on 2772.
Guides for repacking hose are in progress. The

An oversized hydrant bag was found at FDIC
which can be attached to the end of the LDH. It is
large enough to fit all current tools and is felt it
would reduce the chance of forgetting the bag in the
apparatus when taking a hydrant. Looking into acquiring a test bag.
