As we reflect on the different mysteries we become aware of the love Our Lord has for us. We pray that we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. October is Respect Life Month. We are reminded of the Power of Prayer. We are encouraged to join our prayer with all the faithful to pray for the respect of all life from the moment of conception until natural death. During the 40 Days of Life let us participate in the many activities in our area. The different parishes have committed them-selves to pray in front of a place of abortion and pray for an end of this great Sin. The upcoming election is an im-portant event in our nation. Let us not neglect our Chris-tian responsibility by being informed and participating. Our bishops give us help on their web site, http:// www.usccb.org/faithfulcitizenship/ FCStatement.pdf. Our bishops call on us to pray and put our faith into ac-tion. This call to prayer is prompted by unprecedented challenges to our faith, our Church and our nation, a cul-ture toward redefining marriage and family life. It is my prayer for you and you families to grow in faith and love. In Memoriam SK Donald L. Ryan Assembly 1087 Faithful Navigator’s Message Brother Sir Knights and Ladies, First, I want to remind all Sir Knights that there will be a closed business meeting on Octo-ber 26th and then the open meeting will be on November 30th for our Sir Knights and Ladies. This will be our Patriotic/Ladies Appreciation/ New Member Welcome night. You may be ask-ing why not an open meeting in October as we’ve had in the past? Well, due to circumstances beyond our control with the Exemplification being on October 29th which is later than normal and the date falls after the last Wednesday of the month, we wouldn’t be able to welcome our new Sir Knights and Ladies at that time. Also in years past, we have combined this with our Patriotic night. This will be a nice evening so I hope everyone can make it. Brother Sir Knights, we need you to make every effort to attend meetings and step up to volunteer to take an active part in your Assembly. We need help on all of our committees and many hands make light work for all. Let me know what your passion is and what your vision is for our Assembly. We simply cannot survive if we do not have the participation of our members. As 4th degree Sir Knights we set the example of what it is to be a Knight of Columbus through cheerful service. Also it is our Patriotic duty as Americans to vote so please perform your duty as an American and let you voice be heard at the polls on November 8th. God Bless America! This holiday is controversial because the European settlement in the Americas led to the demise of the history and culture of the in-digenous peoples. Officially, the people of the USA are invited to celebrate the anniversary of the discovery of their country with church services and other activities. In some towns and cities, special church ser-vices, parades and large events are held. Most celebrations are concentrated around the Italian-American community. The celebrations in New York and San Francisco are particularly noteworthy. In Hawaii Columbus Day is also known as Landing Day or Discoverer's Day. Not all parts of the United States celebrate Columbus Day. It is not a public holiday in California, Nevada and Hawaii. Moreover, Native American’s Day is celebrated in South Dakota, while Indigenous People’s Day is celebrated in Berkeley, California. Columbus day is a public holiday in many parts of the United states, but is not ob-served or is not a holiday in some states. Government offices and schools are gener-ally closed, but businesses may be open. The flag of the United States is displayed on Government buildings. http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/us/columbus-day Knight Letter articles are always welcome!
