Nail it for Rhinos this World Rhino Day! What is World Rhino Day? World Rhino Day is held on 22 September every year. The day is celebrated by thousands of people worldwide who aim to raise funds and awareness for the world’s five rhino species. 2015 is the fifth annual World Rhino Day. What is Nail it for Rhinos? Help Save the Rhino celebrate World Rhino Day by getting involved with our Nail it for Rhinos campaign. We’re encouraging all our supporters to get their schools, friends and family involved in making a stand for rhinos and helping raise valuable funds for their protection. All you have to do is get crafty and paint your nails (rhino theme optional!) and spread the word about what you’re doing! Why paint nails? Rhino horn is made from a substance called keratin, which is the same material found in human hair and nails. Despite rhino horn having no proven medicinal purposes, rhinos are being killed for their horns by poachers, who illegally smuggle rhino horn into Asian countries where it is highly prized. Every year more and more rhinos are being killed to fulfil the illegal demand for rhino horn. Help us raise awareness that rhinos are endangered and need our protection! How can I get involved? We’d like to invite all schools, youth clubs, sports clubs, friends and family to get involved in the Nail it for Rhinos campaign by painting your nails for the day on Tuesday 22 September 2015. If you’re a school you could encourage a fundraising collection where each pupil has to donate £1 to Save the Rhino to be allowed to paint their nails at school or wear nail varnish for the day. Other fundraising ideas: Hold a rhino special assembly to raise awareness Rhino nail art competition – a prize for the most creative nails Nail bar – get crafty for rhinos and paint your friend’s nails for a small donation Non-uniform day, why not go grey for rhinos? Or host a wildlife-themed dress-down day? Ask your school to share images from the day on their social media #Nailit4Rhinos Make sure you take lots of photos and send them to [email protected] for your chance to be featured on Save the Rhino’s website! All funds raised will help support Save the Rhino’s conservation work to protect the world’s five rhino species in Africa and Asia. Find out more and get in touch!
