Bossier City Flier

EASA Southwestern Chapter
Fall Meeting...October 2,3,4, 2014
Bossier City, LA
Please join all your EASA friends for a few days of fun & relaxation
accompanied by great technical sessions, social events and tours!
Shreveport-Bossier City (Louisiana's Other Side) is situated on the Red River in northwest Louisiana.
This fun destination offers Vegas-style gaming, great dining experiences, lots of live music and attractions.
You’ll enjoy a unique combination of two great American heritages: a little Cajun, and since it’s less
than 15 minutes from the Texas border, it’s also a little Lone Star.
Shreveport-Bossier boasts elegant Southern charm and a relaxed attitude that suggests you
kick your boots off and stay a while.
You can step out of the hotel and walk the famed Louisiana
Boardwalk. A beautiful and stylish shopping area that’s a
perfect place to enjoy a meal or a delightful coffee in a chic
outdoor café. Or if you prefer, a pre-performance dinner and
drinks in a romantic bistro overlooking the river that glows
with the reflection of sparkling lights. Relaxed and sprawling,
with something for everyone, the Boardwalk is the largest
center for stores, art, entertainment and dining, in all of
Louisiana. The Boardwalk hosts over 60 outlet stores and
restaurants, as well as a major movie theater.
At the end of the Boardwalk is Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Resort Casino.
This is a newly opened beautiful casino providing you with a clean,
comfortable atmosphere and a memorable entertainment experience.
It offers the convenience of single level gaming with more than 1300 slot
machines and 46 game tables.
Our meeting will be held at:
Courtyard by Marriott
(Bossier City Boardwalk)
100 Boardwalk Blvd.,
Bossier City, LA 71111.

aggregate & cement.

with a recently restored working 1920 flywheel. This 1887 waterworks plant
was the last known steam-powered water plant in the USA when its engines
were finally retired in 1980. It is now listed as an historic landmark.
4. A great way to finish out the day...visiting the Great Raft Brewing company
and tasting room. You’ll get to taste beer samples and take home a souvenir mug.

Alternate Activity - History, food and cruisin’
Our guided tour will start with a drive around Riverfront park and through the historic district. You will pass by the Shreveport
Historical Auditorium. Built in the 1920s, this building was where Elvis Presley first performed on stage.
We will then stop at the Logan mansion, a magnificent 1897 Queen Anne Victorian home, for a
narrated tour complete with ghost stories.
Is the Logan Mansion really haunted? legends tell us that in 1904 a young neighbor of the Logan's,
eleven year-old Theodora Hunt, came to the house, went to the attic and leapt to her death from a
front window! There are many, stories of sighting a little girl in the house; objects that have moved;
disembodied footsteps; a screen door that latches itself (and unlatches itself and opens), and much
more. The LeBrun's now keep a log of the strange happenings in their home and invite you to hear
the stories and decide for yourself...Is the Logan Mansion really haunted?
Our next stop will be for a delicious lunch at the elegant Twenty-Four-Thirty-Nine Fairfield Bed & Breakfast, circa 1905, situated in the historical district on a beautiful avenue of mansions and fine homes built
around the turn of the century.
The property has landscaped English rose and herb gardens, a Victorian swing, gazebo and water
fountain nestled among the oak trees.
Then to finish out our afternoon, we will board the Spirit of the Red River...for a sight seeing cruise
on the Red River that will take us for a relaxing one hour boat ride and have us back at the hotel by
around 4:30pm!

September 18th—the deadline for hotel reservations, convention registrations and payments
Special note:
If you’re driving West to Texas after the meeting we recommend you take the time to stop and take a tour of Caddo Lake
(the only natural lake in all of Texas). You will glide almost silently along Caddo Lake's Big Cypress Bayou aboard the
Graceful Ghost, a replica of an 1800's era steamboat. The "Graceful Ghost" is a live steam driven vessel with a working paddle-wheel and wood fired boiler. Sit back and enjoy the ride as you watch the diverse wildlife and the many species of
aquatic plants inhabiting Caddo Lake. We will take you on a timeless journey among majestic cypress trees draped in
stately, Spanish moss. Check the schedule at http://gracefulghost.com/activities/paddle-wheel-steamboat.html
