Currently, we have three MV90 systems: Electric, Substation and Gas
Meter data acquisition network consists of:

Why Export Data to PI Database?
WE Energy has Confidential Data Access Agreement (CDAA) with
Public Service Commissions (PSC)
The Agreement prohibits Wholesale Energy and Fuels (WF) users
access to Intertie (Inter Transmission Line) data within MV90 Billing
System
But WF has a business need to access MV90 data for
Billing
Reconciliation
Analysis
Challenge: How to hide Intertie (Transmission) data from WF users?
MV90 does not have security to hide selected records
PI Database has powerful record level security and all transmission
data can be masked from WF users.
Our Challenge
How to provide data to WF on a regular basis without
violating CDAA?
Short term Solution
Manually extract required data and e-mail to WF staff
This is inefficient and time consuming
Long Term Solution
Evaluate long term solutions so that current business processes are
not interrupted.
Replicate the MV90 Billing data into PI Historian Database
Setup access rights to prevent WF staff to view Intertie data within PI
database
Add point security within PI to all transmission sensitive
information.

Pilot System in Test Lab
In June 2008, we setup a pilot system in our test
lab to study flexible export to extract MV-90 data
to external databases such as PI, Oracle, etc.
We have tried to create a flexible export template
which meet the PI database criteria.
PI tags are complex and with the help of our inhouse expert we are partly successful to-date.
This project is in progress and scheduled to
complete in March 2009.

Conclusion
Flexible export is an excellent feature available in MV-90
xi V2.0
We are partly successful in exporting data to PI
database and our work is in progress
Some problems were unique to PI database especially
setting up unique PI Tags
