The booklet should include a decorative cover, definitions/sentences and drawings of each term. As an extension activity, the students will select one of the regions and will write a three-paragraph essay explaining how the region has changed over the years. The poster will include a picture and facts on each of the leaders. The poster will also include a chart comparing the Americans and British forces in four categories: leaders, war tactics, honors/recognition, and how each side faired at the conclusion of the war. Upon completion, each group will give a brief presentation on their poster. 8.2.5 Students will work with a shoulder partner to create a Civil War flow chart that includes the following: state’s rights, the Missouri Compromise, the Compromise of 1850, the Confederate States of America and its leaders, and the Union States and its leaders. Students will then participate in a class discussion on the causes and effects of the Civil War, including the reactions of the leaders. Each student will then use background knowledge to write 2-4 paragraphs on which side presented the most valid argument. 8.2.6 Students will complete a five flip tab foldable on Radical Reconstruction. The categories will include: The Ten Percent Plan, Radical Republicans, the 14th Amendment, the Compromise of 1877, and Reconstruction. They will construct a map that identifies the shipping routes of various materials/products and write 2-3 paragraphs that explain the significance of the Port of New Orleans to our local economy. Students will then work in small groups to create a chart identifying various products created from each of those resources. Groups will then discuss the impact of those products on the nation’s economy. 8.9.2 Students will plot weekly prices of a local commodity on a classroom line graph (e.g. crawfish, gas, etc.). Students will include information on the graph of events/trends that would affect the price, such as droughts, hurricanes, holidays, etc. Students will then write 3-4 paragraphs summarizing the relationship between these events and the cost of the products. 30
