Letters have been sent home inviting students to the relevant sessions, and teaching staff will be on hand to deliver revision sessions and provide exam support and guidance in each subject. This can be an overwhelming time for year 11 students and we are providing these sessions as additional support and preparation to help them to excel in their exams, acheiving the best possible grades. Free hots drinks will be offered on arrival, with snacks provided during the day. Breakfast orders placed by 9am will be delivered to students by 11am! In addition to our Easter Holiday School, there are a number of revision sessions continuing during term time, with a full timetable of after school intervention sessions on offer. Last week’s Connect 4 event provided exam tips and guidance in each subject to year 11 students and their parents and carers, and those who attended really appreciated the support. Our highest acheiving students last year were those who took full advantage of the additional support and revision sessions available to them. This weekend she competed in the English Junior Championship won the competition. Well done Ellie Connect 4 Thank-you to all the families and staff who attended last Wednesday’s Connect 4 event on effective revision. Maths, English and science talked families through the complexities of the exam boards and whattheyarelookingfortoachievethebestmarks. There was lots of information shared on how to use past papers, complete practice questions and access the wealth of web based revision materials. The emphasis was on making revision effective quality as well as quantity. We also talked about the essential role families have on students’ wellbeing and getting them‘exam ready’.Following our potato pie supper, everyone joined in different carousel activities led by the teachers that provided some hands-on activities for all the different subjects. Year 10 student, Harrison Yeoman, has been selected to play for Lancashire School Boys Football Team. He played on 21/03/2016 and the team won 9-0! Harrison took part in a major twoday tournament in Blackpool over the Easter Weekend, the Lancashire School Boys team won the tournament, playing 4 different teams from across the UK and Europe in order to win the trophy. Message from the Headteacher Dear All I hope everyone enjoyed a restful Easter weekend and indulged in plenty of chocolate treats! You will have further family time this Friday, as we break up for our two week holiday. Please note Friday is a normal school day, no early finish and no non-uniform. Hard work until 3:03pm on Friday! Year 11 students have received Easter School revision timetables this week. Please check with your year 11 child about when/if they are expected in college over the break. Any queries or concerns please contact Mrs Lindsay or Mrs Pugh. It was lovely to see some of our year 11 parents in college revising with their children at our recent Connect 4 event. A reminder to all year 9 and 10 parents about the understanding examinations workshop this Thursday at 5.30pm. It will be a really useful event for parents and students alike. Please note that our phone system is being replaced over the Easter break and calls will be diverted to a mobile. If you have any issues getting through please email us at [email protected] and someone will be in touch as soon as we return.
