Church, Saints, and Spiritual Authors will be made available in PDF on Canvas.
THEO 504: Moral & Spiritual Theology (de Solenni)
Catechism of the Catholic Church - either eBook or hardcopy. You will need to read entire sections of it;
so online versions are not conducive.
Veritatis Splendor, by St. John Paul II, 1993. Online is fine for this. Please only use the Vatican
version if you are using the web version.
The Sources of Christian Ethics, by Servais Pinckaers, OP, 1995.*
Morality: The Catholic View, by Servais Pinckaers, OP, 2001 or 2003*
Introduction to the Devout Life, by St. Francis de Sales.
Fire From Above, by Anthony Lilles, 2016.**
The Soul of the Apostolate, by Jean-Baptiste Chautard, OCSO. **
*You only need to purchase one of the Pinckaers books. Sources is more complete and worth the
investment, particularly if you are planning to teach.
** Unless you are in a rush to purchase books, I would recommend waiting on these two books as I
may not use both of them.
You will be required to read the entirety of Parts III & IV in the Catechism. I recommend beginning
on them as soon as possible so that you can digest the content. It will require a slow and thoughtful
read. You’ll get much more out of the text and the classes if you do not cram the readings.

St. Augustine. The readings from Augustine can be found in The Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers of the
Christian Church (vols. 1-8 First Series, Philip Schaff, ed. Buffalo NY: The Christian Literature
