Key Things to Remember when Scheduling Courses
Once classes are published to the Web
Once classes are published to the web (by the Office of the Registrar) request for room changes in general classroom space will be
required to meet one of the requirements below.
o Lack of required technology
o Request from Institutional Equity & Compliance
o Exceeds room capacity
Multiple Meeting Patterns (MMP)
(MMP – A course with one CRN assigned which is assigned more than one meeting pattern and/or time)
 A course scheduled in multiple locations cannot exceed the room capacities of any of the locations.
 A course cannot be scheduled in multiple locations for the same meeting pattern and same time(s).
 (e.g. – 0800-0915 TR classroom space and 0800-0915 TR lab space) – Not acceptable
 (e.g. – 0800-915 T classroom space and 0800-0915 R lab space) – Acceptable
Overrides for rooms
1. Overrides on rooms are to only be used when cross-listing classes.
2. Classes that are cross-listed must have same day, same time and same location.
Standard Meeting Patterns/Standard Meeting Times (#30 – Page 10)
Departments will follow the Standard Meeting Patterns/Standard Meeting Times table on the INB/Banner system during the
Class Schedule Building period(s) for classes scheduled.
a. If a Department does not follow the standard meeting patterns and/or times for a 3 credit hour class, they must have
a Non-Standard Meeting Pattern and /or Start Time permission form approved by the Dean of your College and the
Office of the Provost before assigning a day/time to a class.
b. If a class is not a 3 credit hour course then approved start times must be followed.
Section Status
If a class is Active or Hold it must have a building/room assigned if it has a day and time assigned.
Large Classroom Priority Scheduling (Priority/Early Construction Period)
*Note: The University will make every attempt to fairly allocate large classroom space between the home College courses and courses that are
affiliated with other Colleges on campus. The final decision on space allocation lies with the university and such decisions are made according to the
best interests of the university as a whole.
Large Classrooms have a capacity of 80 or more.

To ensure the best use of University resources, Scheduling Support will centrally schedule large classrooms during
Priority/Early Construction Period.
An 80% fill ratio is required to request a large classroom. For example: if the “Partition Preference” requested includes a room
with a capacity of 80, the expected enrollment must be a minimum of 64 before it will be assigned.
Courses that do not meet the 80% fill ratio will be scheduled during Late Construction Period by the department.
Several factors are considered when scheduling large classrooms to ensure the best use of University resources including, but not limited
to the following:
 80% fill ratio
 Building availability / room availability / room capacity
 Compliance with meeting patterns and times
 Availability of day and times requested
 Technology requirements
 Actual enrollment of past classes
 Expected enrollment

Please consult the Banner Schedule Building Guide on the Office of the Registrar’s website for additional clarification on how to request a
large classroom during Priority/Early Construction Period in INB Banner. The Office of the Registrar establishes the dates for priority course
scheduling (Class Schedule Building Deadlines).
Note: Scheduling Support uses an Argos report that shows only classes who have properly assigned a “Partition Preference” under the “Section Preferences” tab.
