Practical sheet : Pre-opening a bank account in France

In order to be paid by the University of Angers, you must have :

either a bank account abroad with an IBAN or SWIFT code and a BIC code, on which an
international bank transfer is possible
or a bank account in France
If you wish to open a bank account in France, you can choose any bank agency.
For information, the pre-opening of a bank account in France from abroad is possible for
International Researchers with the Société Générale, a partner of Alfred Kastler national
Foundation (FnAK). Besides, the International Researchers of the University of Angers can benefit from
an exemption of bank account fees for the first 6 months.
How to pre-open a bank account at the Société Générale :
1. Complete online a registration form at the following address : http://www.fnak.fr (“I
speak English” / “Services” / “Guest Researcher Card” ) to get your Guest
Researcher e-card from Alfred Kastler national Foundation. You will receive a Guest
Researcher number by email.
2. Upload the files “General conditions.pdf” and “Account form.pdf” at the following
address : http://www.fnak.fr (“I speak English” / “Services” / “Banking”). Print,
complete and sign the account form, print and sign the general conditions and fax
them to the partner agency of the Société Générale ( (+33) (0)2 41 20 57 27),
accompanied with a copy of an identity paper or your passport and a tax residency
certificate.
3. The partner agency of the Société Générale will send you the bank details of the preopened French bank account.
4. You will be able to do a bank transfer from the bank account of your current country of
residence to your pre-opened French bank account with these bank details.
5. As soon as you arrive in France, you must make an appointment with the person in
charge of the partnership for International Researchers (Mme Patricia Pannetier) to
show your original identity paper or passport and supply a domiciliation proof in
France. Don’t forget to ask several « RIB » (bank account details) and order payment
means if needed (credit card, chequebook…).
