December 2015
The NED Show is coming to Quincy on December 7th. It is a funfilled show that teaches important character education lessons. NED stands for “Never give up, Encourage others, and Do
your best”.
The show mixes old-fashioned yo-yo fun with the important
themes. The show is provided free to Quincy students because
we are going to sell The NED Show yo-yo’s all next week after
school. Our PTO is hosting the after-school sales December 7-11,

Clothing for Younger Students
We are in need of leggings and/or
sweatpants for the occasional mishaps
for our younger students. If you have
some you could donate please drop off
at the school office.
Thank you!
Winter Wear
It may not quite look like December out
there, but it still gets pretty cold on the
Quincy playgrounds. Please be sure to
send your students with hat, gloves,
boots, snow pants and a warm winter
coat. Also, be sure to label everything
in case a student misplaces something.
Thank you!
Spanish Updates
Many families have requested more information about what students are learning in their
weekly 50-minute Spanish classes this year. Students in full-day Young Fives & grades K-5
are working to master basic introductory vocabulary including greetings, introductions,
numbers, days & months, colors, and shapes. Additionally, each grade level has different
thematic vocabulary they work with as the year progresses, including things like family,
food, hobbies, likes/dislikes, school supplies, the human body, clothing, and more, depending on the grade level.
One of the best ways for students to learn and remember new Spanish vocabulary is
through music! Students learn, practice, and “perform” educational Spanish songs in class
each week to support the vocabulary they are working to master. You can access the following song titles at home with your child as a way to practice and reinforce Spanish vocabulary.
Suggested song titles available for free on YouTube’s educational children’s channels:

As always, we recommend that children be supervised when using the Internet. Please be
aware that YouTube’s website and the “YouTube” app do feature content from other channels and users, as well as ads, that are not suitable for children.
There is an app available for iOS and Android called “YouTube Kids” that appears to be a
safer alternative to the YouTube website with filtered content for children. During Spanish class, we stick to educational, kid-friendly videos and do not show the students
any YouTube ads!
Surveys from Advance-ed
In an effort to improve system practices, Zeeland Public Schools is conducting a parent
and a student survey. We value your opinion and ask that you take the time to complete
this survey.

ProtectMIChild
Are your children safe while online? Michigan families, especially minors, are becoming inundated with advertisements from alcohol, tobacco, pornography and gambling marketers
through different internet and cell phone inboxes. Texting their advertisements is the newest marketing effort that many of these companies are using. Thankfully, the State of Michigan offers a free program to stop adult advertisements from reaching e-mails, mobile
phones (text messaging ads) and instant messenger IDs. The Michigan Child Protection
Registry, like the federal Do Not Call List, is a free do-not-contact service for Michigan’s
families and schools and can be located at www.ProtectMIChild.com.
As a strong supporter of this registry, Zeeland Public Schools would like to encourage you
to sign your entire family up for the registry and inform your friends and colleagues about
how they can protect children and families from unwanted adult advertising. To sign up
only takes seconds. Just go to www.ProtectMIChild.com and keep your family safe.
