Participants will be required to undertake practical work, complete a reflective diary and carry out a skills demonstration to assess the participant’s ability to dress, feed and care for a child with disabilities. Course prepares participants for work in Childcare. It looks at the key stages in child development (children 0 - 6 yrs.), including the child’s physical, cognitive, linguistic, emotional, social and behavioural development. It also examines the importance of play on the child’s well-being. Designed for those seeking to raise their proficiency in Irish. The emphasis is on improving the participant’s skills through listening, speaking, reading and writing. A pass in Irish at QQI Level 3, Junior Certificate Level Irish or an equivalent award is necessary for entry. To develop drawing techniques and extend participant’s awareness and skills in a range of drawing media. This course would be of interest to students seeking to prepare a portfolio relevant to further education in the visual arts. Covers the basic methods/techniques in pottery including, pinch pots, coil pots, slab building, mould making, pot throwing, 3D ceramic, relief sculpture and glazing. Participants will have the opportunity to make pottery with both functional and decorative applications. Covers the basic, glass cutting, forming, fusing and slumping techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to design jewellery and make fine art glass pieces. Tuition will focus on drawing from observation and will include the fundamentals of line, tone, shape, form and perspective. Designed for those working in a Naíonraí. Participants must have a command of the Irish language and will be subject to interview at enrolment. The minimum required standard for entry to this course is the Irish in Everyday Use, QQI Level 4, 4N1179 course listed on previous page. Participants will have an opportunity to work with materials & equipment and prepare a range of simple glass craft pieces. An introduction to pottery including, pinch pots, coil pots, slab building. Participants will have an opportunity to learn clay techniques, to make a variety of decorative pots and ceramic pieces. A candidate must accumulate eight approved minor awards/modules to attain the QQI Level 5 Major Award or certificate. These awards can be accumulated over time and are suited to part-time study. The QQI certificate is recognised for progression to Higher Education and training.
