Gruendel, Intern Principal Nadia Greenwood, Intern Assistant Principal Tuesday, January 17, 2017 For your child’s safety, ALL visitors MUST check in and receive a visitor’s pass. From the Principal’s Desk: Welcome to the third nine weeks of this school year as we find ourselves busier than ever at Tradewinds. On Wednesday evening, we will complete our STEM Family Nights with Grade 4 and 5. Our monthly SAC meeting will take place on Thursday and then our Grade 2 and 3 Young Authors will present on February 2nd. Over the next few weeks, all of our students will be involved with PTA’s new fundraiser called APEX. Please ask your child(ren) about the character trait message they learned from our visiting APEX athletes. The fundraiser will conclude with a Fun Run on Friday, January 27th and all students will receive a nutritious shaved ice treat from Kona Ice, compliments from administration. As Tradewinds moves forward with digital initiatives that support the district’s strategic academic and continuous improvement goals, we are excited to have seven interactive classroom/presentation systems at our school. Teachers will receive professional learning associated with this project as we create model digital classrooms for teaching and learning. Information regarding our new technology, called Recordex Simplicity Touch Collaborative System can be found at http://www.recordexusa.com/. As parents visit our school, you will find this technology throughout our general and special education classrooms as well as our media center. The first of our morning extended learning camps will begin within the next few weeks. This camp is designed for English Language Learners and will be instructed by our teachers, coordinated by Mrs. Quezada, ESOL Resource Teacher. Please return these forms to your child’s teacher and contact Mrs. Quezada ([email protected]) with any questions. By this time, more than half of our students have completed their I-Ready diagnostic assessments in Reading and Mathematics and should be working on their specific learning paths. Teachers will provide students with login information, if they haven’t already and student usage will be closely monitored. Each student’s learning path is differentiated to meet their academic needs and aligned to the standards. Our new computer lab, Room 153 is now available for students from 7:30-7:55 each morning. At the beginning of the week, help your child identify one challenging but attainable goal. For example, read one book per week. 2. Have your child write the goal down. Post it on the refrigerator or a bulletin board. 3. Discuss how to accomplish this goal. Help your child break it down into smaller steps. For example, read two chapters every day. 4. Ask how things are going during the week. Discuss possible solutions if problems come up. 5. At the end of the week, help your child evaluate how he did. Most important, praise your child for trying. Then set a new goal.
