General Information
This document is aimed at our clients who wish to produce their own finished art,
either in their own office or by a graphic artist, so that all ABC does is to print from
the file supplied.
As such, we have covered most of the scenarios in terms of software to be used,
file formats, page sizes etc.
When sending any artwork to us, please always supply a contact name and
number in case we need to contact you, quote the job number if you know it, who
the agent is, and a property address if possible. This helps us in matching artwork
to our database.

Please note that if our file specifications are followed and met, there should be no
problems in the printing process. We do not take any responsibility for files
supplied which do not conform to our specifications.

File Specifications
We do not generally rip directly from your file as such - we mostly convert to
an eps and place this in PageMaker - this is to ensure that page sizes are
correct, and the document will be processed correctly through our automated
rip system.
PAGE SIZES AND MARGINS:
Refer to the template specifications in this document.
Illustrator:
This is our preferred standard file type
Convert all fonts to outlines
EPS Version 8 or lower or AI Version 8 or lower
If using CS, export as Legacy EPS version 8
Placed images can be embedded or linked (if linked,
don’t forget to send these files to us as well)
CorelDRAW:
CDR native format or export as EPS
Convert fonts to outlines
Placed images can be embedded or linked
PDF:
Preferably created with Distiller
Use the "Press" job options
Embed all fonts and images
Note:
Illustrator and Corel tend to make very large files when
a mixture of raster and vector based art is used.
These files can quite safely be compressed with WinZIP,
Stuffit or similar
OTHER FILE TYPES
InDesign:
Convert fonts to outlines and use Distiller
to create a PDF file (see above)
QuarkXpress:
Not acceptable in native format as we generally end up
with font issues, export as EPS and bring this into
Illustrator if possible (see above), or use Distiller
to create a PDF file (see above)
PhotoShop:
Should only be used to create/edit images, for
placing in Illustrator for final layout (if supplying
linked files save as CMYK eps, tiff, or high quality jpg)

LOGOS:
All text and line art components of logos should be vector based art. If there
is a raster based component, out of say PhotoShop, this should be placed in
Illustrator and the text and line art added, then file saved in Illustrator
format.
IMAGES:
In tiff, high quality jpg or PhotoShop eps, CMYK for all printing over A3 in
size, RGB for all printing A3 and under in size.
Tiffs should be minimum 10mb, and anything up to 100mb at 300dpi,
depending on final output size, then jpg to high quality, or eps with jpg
compression.
Placed/linked in the Illustrator file, or embedded if creating a PDF.
COLOUR MATCHING:
Our printing is 4-color process (not spot color), on a variety of machines
depending on the required output. While we cannot guarantee exact PMS
color matches, we will match them as closely as possible to produce a
pleasing representation if not an exact match. PMS Metallic and solid
luminous colors are not available.
If using Pantone colour matching, colours should be matched to the coated
4 colour process chart, not solid colour.
As we use a number of different types of printing machines and associated
media, there will always be some variance from one to the next. This is not
unlike commercial printers printing letterheads on bond paper, and business
cards on 300gsm gloss board, the colours WILL vary.
Our printing rips are set up in such a way that if the document contains PMS
colours they will use the PMS lookup table we have written to define how the
colour will be printed. Whereas, if the document contains CMYK colour the rip
goes to a different lookup table and defines the colours in a different way.

FONTS:
We are PC based and therefore it is of no use to supply us with Mac fonts.
As a general rule we do not use any fonts supplied by clients.
All fonts should be converted to outlines, or if need be, must be embedded in
the PDF file supplied. There are potential font issues with embedding
proprietary fonts, as they cannot be embedded as such for conversion to eps.

SENDING FILES:

We can receive your emails directly through our central
system on [email protected]
Please state clearly in the body text who the artwork is
for, the job number if you have already placed the order,
the property address (for our database), and your contact
details in case there is something wrong and we need to
make contact with you.
Via our Web Site:
Our web site provides an order entry area where all the
details can be input by the client and files uploaded
accordingly. This is the fastest and most efficient way
of placing an order with us.
The web site also provides an area for "one off" orders to
be placed into our system, and the uploading of files
accordingly. This is suitable for non standard account and
commercial clients. There is an upload limit of 7mb per
file.
By Mail:
When sending orders/artwork by post, please ensure that
cds, dvds, hard copies, etc. are well protected against the
handling procedures in the postal system. It is best to
supply a hard copy of the finished art, and/or a low res
PDF file as a visual reference. It is best to make copies of your
cds or dvds and send us the copy. We cannot guarantee their
safe arrival or return.
VERY IMPORTANT:
Where finished art is supplied to us in whatever format,
we will assume that this art has been approved and signed
off by the client prior to us receiving it, and hence we will
go straight to print WITHOUT proofing to the client first.
In general terms we will only make contact with the artist
or client if we see a problem or the file won't print. We also
take no responsibility for any files supplied that do not
conform to our required specifications.

We do not have an email size limit as such, therefore your
transmission to us will basically be governed by the limits
set by your Internet Service Provider.

The following pages show our standard sizes for brochures, cards and sign
boards, and the relevant template set up details for producing finished art.
In general, page set up for signboards or posters over A3 in size are to be set up
at 20% of the actual full finished print. Please conform to this size percentage as
files set up at 100% quite often crash systems or are impossible to rip to the
printer, and when printed are no better in quality. (Many sign companies work at
only 10%)
Each page size represents the full printed poster output (at 20%), and includes
bleed into the frame once mounted and erected, so text boundaries must be
taken into account when setting up artwork.
Page set up for posters, brochures or cards, A3 and under in size are to be set up
at 100% of actual finished print.

Where the poster is printed in multiple panels, text should not overlap the join,
where possible, so that individual letters do not get split.
