African French Speaking Organisation “AFSOR” is a registered charity group set up, in May 2005,
for the benefit of disadvantaged people from Africa francophone in particular and in general, for
the benefit of anyone from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic “BAME” community groups. The
charity aims to: provide children, young people, adult and elderly with additional education, skills
training and recreation; raise awareness in matters regarding community social life in the UK
mainly in health and safety, housing, employment, barriers, neighbourhood, British Law, and
welfare benefits. The main activities are: ESOL: From beginner to advanced levels; After School
Education; ICT/Computing and Employability Skills Training; Workshops; Information, Advice and
Guidance; Volunteering Scheme; Counselling; Interpreting and translation; Sports/Recreation;
Black History Telling; Arts and Outings. The objectives of the charity are to relieve barriers; help
children and young people achieve their potentials; enable the community members to play a fuller
role in the UK society as a whole; help the service users get adequate information, skills for life
and qualifications; increase the service users’ confidence and self-esteem; relieve poverty,
isolation, stress, depression and other kind of illnesses; recognise own community values and
values of other community groups; secure a lasting improvement of social life and facilitate the
community members’ integration into British society. The organisation relies on grants and
voluntary donations to run our activities. Our thoughts turn to the Enfield Council, Local Authority
Services and other funders for their kind generosities. Their financial and in kind donation supports
are allowing the organisation to continue fulfilling its assigned objectives.

An informal meeting place where older Cypriots and Cypriots with disabilities meet in a safe and
welcoming environment. We provide a luncheon club on Tuesdays (£3.10). We have chair based
exercise programme, tea and coffee, play bingo, have health talks, arrange seaside trips and help
with translation and referring members to appropriate agencies. Membership if £5 per year.

Enfield Caribbean Association offers information and advice to members of the Caribbean
community who may be experiencing difficulty accessing public services. The association
operates a luncheon club for the elderly, which provides a healthy hot meal, simple exercise
classes, and other social and cultural activities at the Trinity at Bowes Methodist Church between
1pm-4pm on Fridays. The association also offers a weekly drop-in session on Thursdays between
10am-1pm to socialise and includes exercises classes at the Community House. Members are
mainly Caribbean but the association is open to everyone.

Enfield Saheli (female friend) offers support and advice to women in Enfield. The charity is run by
women for women, with special emphasis on support for women of all ethnicities. They aim to
empower women to participate fully in social, cultural and civic life; provide services through
trained and friendly female staff who can speak South Asian languages by supporting women with
mental health, acute illness, disabilities, carers and also women who have experienced domestic
violence. It has a broad approach offering information, advice and guidance, access to legal and

A non-profit making voluntary organisation established to help the resettlement of Somali’s living
within Enfield. They offer information and advice on matters such as welfare benefits, education,
health, fuel efficiency and other community development related issues. They have an established

and disabled groups, as well as workshops on various community issues, basic skills training,

London Merit Association is a registered charity that was established for the benefit of the Turkish
and Muslim community in the UK. Education is a very important issue for the Turkish speaking
community in Britain, particularly for those from Turkey. This organisation aims to support Turkish
expatriates in their efforts to integrate into British society at the same time as helping them not to
forget their ethnic heritage. The organisation helps the prevention and relief and poverty, health,
sickness, distress and all related needs amongst the Turkish community especially focusing on
young people. The London Merit Association also hosts the London Merit Supplementary School.
Many after school activities for under 14, for example football club takes place in the London
Turkish Football League, canoeing, swimming, etc.

This organisation was formed based on the personal experience of Norma McFarlane, founder
and chair of the Shane Project, after her son Shane McFarlane was diagnosed with primary
progressive multiple sclerosis. It is the only organisation of its kind in the United Kingdom. The
aims of the project are to raise awareness of this condition, provide emotional support, and
address isolation, particularly among people from ethnic minority groups and people of
African/Caribbean origin, but it is not exclusive. The project seeks to provide a help line and to
work in partnership with other relevant local, national, voluntary and statutory organisations. They
provide a network club every last Thursday of the month from February to November between

The centre offers practical support in the resettlement of refuges and asylum seekers, other
immigrants and unemployed people in greater London. It provides advice and information to
enable them to access services to which they are entitled, and promotes the education, training

training are provided at Enfield Education and Training Centre, and children’s support classes are
held on Saturdays and Sundays.

session students learn the Tamil language, dance, music (including Tamil-drum), and the

organises a number of annual events including a summer holiday, various social and cultural

The day care centre provides an opportunity for Asian elderly, having a substantial need according
to Social Services criteria, to make friends and socialize.
Organised activities include: yoga, chair based exercises, flower arranging, head massage,
reflexology, pedicures, health workshops, a knitting circle, English conversation classes, regular
outings, Diwali/Eid and Christmas parties, and rehabilitative activities. We provide an Asian hot
lunch on each activity day.
EAWA also offers information on health issues to enable ageing well and and assistance with
mobility aids, dial a ride, welfare rights etc

The association aims to promote the welfare and development of the Bengali, Bangladeshi
community and other ethnic minorities in the London Borough of Enfield. It offers welfare advice,

as homework club. The association also has an elderly drop-in, keep-fit classes and luncheon
club. It also offers let’s keep warm and active in winter and a cricket club. The association also

ETAPP is a mobile project for families with preschool children living in temporary and unsuitable
accommodation. This can include emergency, refuge, shared and privately rented
accommodation. We hold sessions in large play spaces in the Borough of Enfield during term time
only. A warm welcome for all, with advice and support for parents on many issues, including
housing, child development, registering with local services and nursery and school applications.
We provide quality play facilities in a large hall with lots of space to play, we can also provide a
Toy Library and CAMHS surgeries free of charge. Interpreters can be booked for more in-depth
discussions.

boroughs. It aims to promote the mental health of elderly members of the Indian community and
