This term we will be revisiting the previous target from spring 1st half as it is a crucial part of the Year 1 Maths curriculum and needs to be embedded. The box at the top shows your child’s Maths target for this half term. Follow the arrow of skills UP that will lead to achieving this. When your child can do each skill then colour it in to monitor their progress. Please return the sheet to school on Monday 22nd May so your teacher can see what has been achieved. We will also be assessing your child’s progress to achieving this target in school. If you have any questions or need advice please speak to the class teacher or Mrs Halley. IDEAS/ACTIVITIES Parent feedback: Use a Rainbow Bonds to 10 image (on the back of this) to help you get started on the ladder learning the pairs to 10. Write the numbers from 0 up to 10 on separate cards (you will need two 5’s). Place the cards face down and play Pairs. Take it in turns to turn over 2 cards and if they total 10 then you have made a pair. Repeat the game with the numbers to 20 as you progress up the ladder (you will need two 10’s then). Explore missing number problems such as 8 + ? = 10 and ? + 4 = 10. This will help your child to embed their understanding of the pairs to 10. Move onto pairs to 20 when ready. http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/addition-and-subtraction Play Alien Pairs to 10, Number Bond Machines, Ways to Make…… all games that help you to learn the pairs of numbers that make 10. http://www.mathplayground.com/index_addition_subtraction.html Play number Bonds to 10, Number Bonds to 20, Number Pairs 10 (lets you choose target number) http://www.ictgames.com Play Funky Mummy or Funky Mummy 20 to practice addition facts Extensions for when you have achieved ALL the skills. Learn the subtraction facts for the numbers up to 20 Eg, if you know that 17 + 3 = 20 then you know that 20 – 17 = 3 and 20 – 3 = 17. When you know all the pairs of numbers that make 10, use them to help you learn the pairs of multiples of ten that make 100 (Eg, if you know 3 + 7 = 10 then you can learn that 30 + 70 = 100) Learn the pairs of numbers that add up to EACH number up to 10 (Eg, to know the pairs that add to make 9, the pairs that add to make 8 etc.)
