farnesina high school - Liceo Statale Farnesina

FARNESINA HIGH SCHOOL
Farnesina is both a scientific and musical High
School and it is divided into three branches.
Scientific High School
It especially promotes
the knowledge of Maths,
Physics and Science.
Musical High School
It leads to the
knowledge of the
musical composition,
interpretation and
performance.
MY REGULAR DAY
My school day starts at
8.00 am and finishes
at 2.00 pm. Each
lesson lasts about
one hour and we
have two breaks of
10 minutes each. We
attend lessons inside
our classes except
for PE and Physics
or Chemistry labs.

SUBJECTS STUDIED IN
HIGH SCHOOL
1.
2.
Subjects that are compulsory at my high
school:
Maths, Physics, Science, Italian,
English, Latin, History, Art, Philosophy,
Physical Education.
All these subjects are compulsory
across every year group. There is only
one subject that is not compulsory, that
is Religion.
I think that subjects like Latin, History
and Art are compulsory because Italy is
an ancient country where monuments
and history play a really important role. I
also think that Maths, Physics and
English are very important for life after
school and thus they are compulsory.
3.
4.
5.
In my opinion Latin and Art
should not be compulsory.
Subjects like Politics, Economy
or Technology should replace
them in order to approach up-todate topics.
Maths, English and Italian will
be the most useful to me when I
leave school. Maths helps us to
think in a rational way and
teaches us to reason with
problem solving logic. English
will be essential both for holiday
in foreign countries and for work
in each part of the “global
world”. Italian is the basis of our
education and culture.
I would include as compulsory
these subjects: Politics,
Economy, Technology, Italian,
English, Maths, Science and
EIGHT EUROPEAN
COMPETENCES
1. Someone who manages to achieve all these competences
would become a perfect European citizen because he
would develop a good knowledge of the cultural basis
both of his own country and of the other European ones.
In this way he could communicate with the other
European citizens in a constructive and aware way. For
these reasons a good preparation in humanistic, scientific
and technological fields is essential and really important.
Thanks to these competences is easer to understand the
different problems of each country and try to solve them
with sense of initiative and entrepreneurship. Therefore it
is basic for everyone, especially the youth, to grow up as
an aware European citizen.
2.
•
•
All these eight European competences are
really important but not currently realized
in every European country. Each
government should take measures to
make them reachable and concrete.
I think that to be a modern European
citizen, communication in foreign
languages is essential to get a better
understanding and to communicate with
the other European citizens.
•In my opinion mathematical competence and basic
competences in
science and technology are fundamental. In Europe,
power
sources, hydrogeological instability and pollution are
some of the
most essential problems that have to be solved. Thus is
• I think that we could promote these competences in our
daily classes discussing about critical European
problems in political, economic and green fields. These
topics would encourage our interest and sense of
initiative about European issues. Teachers should give
lectures on those problematics to increase our
awareness and basis competences.
• In our nation the scholastic system is mainly based on
theoretical knowledge, both for humanistic and
scientific subjects. In my opinion it would be necessary
to develop technical and practical skills as well, and to
improve our social and civic competences.
MY IDEAL SCHOOL
My ideal school is not too different
from my real school. Subjects
should be divided into
compulsory and optional ones,
with a higher number of subjects
to choose from like Technology,
Economy and Ecology. My ideal
school would be up-to-date,
functional and easily usable by
disabled, with ramps and lifts. I
would like to have an equipped
gym and an athletic field where
students can practise sports
even in extra scholastic time.
