Poetry of Music Assignment Poetry is something we encounter everyday, whether we are aware of it or not. The most common way many of us encounter poetry is through music. Many of the songs we listen to are poems themselves or contain poetic elements and devices. Songs are commonly poems put to music. Your Task: 1. Gather at least three examples of school appropriate song lyrics for each of the following literary devices: • Simile • Metaphor • Alliteration • Onomatopoeia • Hyperbole • Personification 2. Display your song lyrics that illustrate each of the above devices on a poster. You may print the lyrics by hand, or you may print them off of a computer. Do not put the whole song on your poster; just quote the specific lyrics that match the device, and remember to give credit to the artist. Your poster should be well-­‐planned out, colorful, and neat. You can refer to the example below if you would like, however you are not required to do your poster in the same way as below.
