DIVERSE CITY BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2015 WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT? October is Black History Month in the College and in Scotland. Glasgow is the most multicultural region in Scotland, with people from a diverse range of nationalities, ethnicities and religions calling the city home. Black History Month has been celebrated in Scotland since 2001 and continues to be a vibrant, fun and informative series of events in Glasgow and Scotland. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? In spite of Glasgow’s rich multicultural heritage, the experiences of African, Caribbean and Asian people have been largely absent from our history books. Black History Month provides an opportunity to commemorate the contributions, sacrifices and achievements made by Glasgow’s diverse communities, and to educate ourselves about Scotland’s past, and use this to build upon our future. WHAT’S GOING ON? City of Glasgow College will be marking Black History Month with a series of events and activities with which both staff and students are encouraged to get involved. For more information please visit: @ www.cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk/about-us/race Or contact the ED&I Team: [email protected] In addition to our own College-wide activities, the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) is organising events across Scotland.
