Call to Order
a. Present: Judi Szpor, Maria Rodriguez, Jan Schoonmaker, Lisa Killion, Nathan
DeSutter, Cherie Moles, Mayra Machain
b. Meeting called to order at 3:33 by Mrs. Szpor, and seconded by Mrs. Schoonmaker.

Adoption of the Agenda
a. Mrs. Killion made a motion to approve the agenda with election of officers added to
the New Business. Mrs. Schoonmaker seconded the motion. All agreed to accept the agenda,
with this change.
4.
Public Input
a. Mr. DeSutter asked for the school to make an effort to give parents 2 weeks’ notice for
all events (meetings, assemblies, etc.). This helps parents who want to be involved with the
school.
b. Mr. DeSutter offered services for technology needs. As the school sees areas, he can
use his contacts to help “fill the gaps” for student education or teacher education.

Reading and approval of the minutes of 10/13/16.
a. Mr. DeSutter made a motion to accept the minutes.
Mrs. Rodriguez seconded
the motion. All agreed to accept the minutes.
6.
New Business
a. Title I Parent Involvement Policy
1. Mrs. Szpor explained what the Title I Family-School Compact is.
2. The committee went through the compact, in order to revise it.
a. Changes to the Student Pledge:
1. Take away “elementary” from “Howard Elementary School,”
so that it reads “Howard School”
2. Put a signature line for each of the parties: Parent, Teacher,
Student
3. “Arrive at school on time every day unless I am ill.” Add-I
recognize that coming to school, and arriving on time, is the key to my success.—bold this.
4. “bringing necessary supplies”-end this at this point.

5. “Be a kind person of good character and respect myself, my
school, classmates, teachers, and family.”
b. Changes to the Teacher/Staff Pledge:
1. Separate the first bullet into two separate bullets
2. “classroom rules”-change to “classroom expectations”
3. Add “self” to respect bullet.
4. add “reasonable and” to “meaningful daily homework”
c. Changes to the Parent/Guardian Pledge
1. Change “attends school” to “arrives to school”
2. Support the school’s discipline…-add “and other policies, as
stated in the handbook”
3. “Volunteer” bullet-take out “Make every effort to be involved
by attending and/or participating in school events.”
4. Take out “shared decision making” bullet.
5. Add “self” to the respect bullet.
d. Mrs. Schoonmaker motioned to approve the Title I Family-School
Compact, with the changes. Mr. DeSutter seconded the motion. Motion carried.
b. Elections
Chairperson: Mrs. Rodriguez nominated Mr. DeSutter for Chairperson. Mrs.
Schoonmaker seconded the motion. Mr. DeSutter agreed to the nomination. Motion passed.
Vice-Chairperson: Mr. DeSutter nominated Mrs. Killion for Vice-Chairperson.
Mrs. Moles seconded the motion. Mrs. Killion accepted the nomination. Motion passed.
Secretary: (Miss Angus) Mrs. Rodriguez nominated Miss Angus as the
Secretary. Mrs. Killion seconded the motion. Miss Angus accepted the nomination. Motion
passed.
7.
Old Business
a. Approval of Bylaws for 2016/2017
1. Mr. DeSutter motioned to
accept the Bylaws as written. Mrs. Rodriguez
seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Announcements

a. K-2 Christmas programs @ 1:45 PM on Friday, December 16 .
b. All volleyball games have been cancelled for this week.
c. Parent conferences (at-risk conferences) for January 18-20, 2017.
d. PBS has contracted with the district to provide Title I parent education classes in
th
January and February. They will be offering childcare and dinner, starting on January 17 for 6
weeks on Tuesday nights.
