Our Commitment
P
enofin® Performance Coatings Inc. is committed to the
environment. We use Brazilian Rosewood Oil harvested
from seed, carefully gathered, and then pressed and
purified. This natural base creates a stain that penetrates deeper,
preserving wood longer. This benign approach does not harm the
environment. The oil, found only on the dry plains of Brazil, is the
essential ingredient in Penofin. No other wood-finishing product
contains this unique oil.
We believe in keeping all the environments we touch safe.
We believe in creating a safe environment for our workers. We do not
create a waste stream in manufacturing. We believe in the continued
search to find sustainably harvested ingredients. The use of these
ingredients provides jobs without destroying the natural habitat.
We believe that one way of caring for our environment is by wisely
using our limited raw materials to create items of beauty, purpose,
and permanence.
We have a responsibility to make our world a safe place
in which we want our children and grandchildren to grow. The
Native Americans had a way of looking at the decisions they made.
They asked themselves “How will it effect the seventh generation?”
We want to make decisions that will positively effect the seventh
generation as well. We must appreciate and care for what we build
with our limited resources.
Penofin products come in three different formulas
designed to work in specific regions of the United States; original
Penofin, 250 V.O.C. and 100 V.O.C. Penofin. The primary
difference between the three products is the application methods.
Low V.O.C. is a one-coat application, original Penofin is a twocoat application.
We are committed to our employees, independent dealers,
and suppliers. In January 2005, we said no to big box stores and now
sell only to independent dealers. In doing so, we support American
businesses by keeping our labor and factory from going overseas,
protecting American jobs. For more information on Performance

Our History
enofin Fine Wood Finishes began over 30 years ago and
has always been the highest quality oil finish in the United
States and Canada. Penofin is perfect for decks, docks,
siding, fences, gazebos, log homes, antiques, floors, and cabinets.
Penofin keeps wood looking great in America’s largest theme
parks, many museums, and retail showrooms. How the “World’s
Most Amazing Wood Finish” got its start is an amusing success
story. It began in a pub in Colorado when a friend made a bet
with a few furniture makers. What was the bet? He could come
up with a unique high-quality wood finish to replace the archaic
formula at that time. The college chemistry professor dove into
the project and changed the world of wood finishes forever.
As he worked to create a new generation of transparent
wood finishes, he took reflective transoxide pigments from the
automotive paint industry. When microscopically ground and
added to the unique Penofin formula, they formed the first
transparent stain to gain a 90%- plus ultraviolet protection. This
breakthrough retards oxidation in wood, creating new ways to
protect wood for the homeowner and professional contractor alike.
Next, the creative chemist introduced Brazilian Rosewood
Oil into the formula. This oil helps Penofin out-penetrate all other
stains in the exciting “Battle of the Stains” penetration tests, taking
the nourishing formula deep into the wood. This incredible oil from
the Brazilian dry plains comes from a seed that falls naturally and
delivers a vegetable oil that can penetrate even dense hardwoods.
Best of all, the trees that drop the seeds are never cut, as the local
economy relies on the income from this sustainably harvested crop.
The creative chemist then added the best quality mildew protection
available anywhere to deter this insidious growth on wood.
Thousands of professional contractors rely on Penofin for the
ultimate in wood care, and the continuing customer delight that using
the best finish can bring. As the great management guru, Peter Drucker, said,
“Americans want a choice of quality levels.” Penofin gives the highest quality
choice for wood finish. And it gives the consumer and professional the best
formula in the industry. Penofin’s 90-99% ultraviolet formulas come in
Exterior, Marine, Pressure-Treated, Hardwood, and Composite Wood
and Interior.

Features
&Benefits
Brazilian Rosewood Oil
Strong, flexible, water-resistant oil that is harvested from the seeds of
the Brazilian Rosewood tree. Allows the wood to retain its flexibility.
It creates no surface film. No trees are ever cut down to obtain this oil.
Transoxide Pigments
Penofin provides up to 99% ultraviolet protection. These pigments
also penetrate into the wood protecting it from the inside out from the
sun’s damaging rays. It adds a rich, transparent color to enhance the
natural beauty of wood, highlighting the grain.
High-Grade Mildewcide
The finest possible mildewcide to retard growth of mold and mildew.
Penetration
Penofin’s formula penetrates deep into the wood. Other coatings lay
on the surface and wear away after a few months. Because Penofin is a
low-solid formula it penetrates, protecting wood beneath the surface.
Test any other wood finish against Penofin with our “blotter book”
test instructions and see for yourself! Another benefit to Penofin’s lowsolid formula you never have to worry about lap marks. This makes
application fast and easy for everyone!

P
ENOFIN exterior finishes were formulated to
safeguard the natural beauty of wood and to
prevent discoloration from the sun’s ultraviolent
rays. Penofin resists and retards bleeding caused by
nails. Two key ingredients contribute to Penofin’s
exceptional abilities:
• Brazilian Rosewood Oil provides tough, deepdown moisture protection while still allowing
the wood to “breathe.” There’s no surface film to
trap moisture, chip, or peel.
• Microscopically fine, transoxide pigments inhibit
ultraviolent damage and darkening. They add deep,
rich color without hiding the natural beauty of the
grain. Semitransparent mist tones; Nantucket Mist
mimics the look of weathered barn wood, Pacific
Pearl Mist adds a whisp of white, and Mendocino
Mist adds a hint of slate grey.
By precisely combining these and other ingredients,
we have created a line of transparent oil wood
finishes unmatched in durability and beauty.

wood finish that outperforms all other transparent
stains. The highly-penetrating Brazilian Rosewood
Oil base, from sustainably harvested seeds,

than any other stain. With the added mildew
protection the “dark menace” will not attack wood
so easily, and helps preserve that freshly-milled
look. Penofin Ultra Premium Red Label is perfect
where rain, wind, snow, or high elevations are
encountered. The formula in Ultra Premium Red

of the highest quality ingredients. Penofin wins

Before
WOOD PREPARATION
WOOD PREPARATION BEFORE FINISHING
Cleaning and preparing wood surface.
There are variables to consider when preparing and finishing a
wood surface is the wood new, old or weathered?
• Old wood: Use PENOFIN’S THREE-STEP SYTEM to
restore and prepare your wood surface for perfect results!
If the wood was previously finished with a brand other
than Penofin Oil Wood Finish, use Step #1 PENOFIN
PRO-TECH STRIPPER. If the prior finish was a
100% acrylic water-based product, use a conventional
paint stripper. This fast-acting, oil-base finish and paint
remover works in thirty minutes! Follow the directions
on the label for easy stripping every time!
Also use Penofin Pro-Tech Stripper to ensure proper
penetration of Penofin Oil Wood Finishes. To test the
wood’s absorbency, sprinkle a few drops of water on the
surface; if water does not penetrate after a few minutes,
stripping with Penofin Pro-Tech Stripper is necessary.
Next apply Step #2 PRO-TECH CLEANER to remove
mold, mildew, or surface dirt. Finally restore the wood
back to its original mill-bright color by using STEP #3
PRO-TECH WOOD BRIGHTENER. This easy-to-use
wood brightener removes the gray appearance caused by
wood tannins.
After
Old wood: Old wood is more porous and may need more
stain to cover the surface. Average coverage per gallon is
250 square feet. Consider that older wood may need more
finish when buying for the project.
Don’t replace! Restore with PENOFIN’S THREE-STEP
SYSTEM!
• New wood: Use Protech Cleaner to remove surface dirt
and kill mold and mildew spores that may be living in
your new wood. Follow the easy directions on the label for
fast and effective cleaning.
It is our recommendation to apply a light coat of
Penofin Oil Wood Finish to your wood surface while it
is “seasoning”. Why let the damage occur? Protect your
investment from the beginning!
If you have allowed the wood surface to “season” or age
before finishing, use Protech Brightener to remove any
discoloration caused by tannins.
Allow the wood to dry for ideal penetration of PENOFIN
OIL WOOD FINISH.
Turn to pages 18 and 19 for complete application instructions!

Application of Exterior Penofin®
Application
Maintenance
• Use ProTech Stripper to remove any non-Penofin stain. If
wood is gray use Pro-Tech Brightener to restore the wood’s
original appearance.
• SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING. DO NOT add thinning
or blending agents.
• Apply Penofin to a clean dry surface. Surface must be free of
dirt and sawdust build-up. Do not apply when wood is hot to
the touch. Minimum temperature is 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Brush on, use a stain pad, or spray on using a pump up sprayer
equipped with plastic tip.
• To allow for maximum penetration wait 30 minutes, then use
a nap-free shop cloth and wipe the entire surface, removing
excess product.
• Surface will be dry to the touch in three hours, and ready for
use in 12 hours.
• When using the one-coat formula, the application is now
complete.
• Do not apply wet-on-wet.
• If using the two-coat formula, wait a minimum of three hours
and apply a light second coat and again wipe any excess from
the entire application area after 30 minutes.
Product Performance Warranty
PENOFIN® exterior finishes are warranted to perform when
applied to wood surfaces according to label instructions. For Blue
Label Penofin expect 2 - 5 years on vertical surfaces, 1 - 2 years on
horizontal surfaces depending on use and weather exposure. We
recommend preserving the beauty of your horizontal surfaces by
staining every 9 - 24 months.
Taping off - cutting in
18
• When you use Penofin, maintenance is a snap. Because
Penofin is a low-solid product, there is no stripping or
sanding necessary. Simply wash the surface with water and a
mild detergent. Allow your wood surface to dry completely,
approximately 48 hours before application.
• Follow the application methods listed on the previous page for
a fresh and beautiful wood surface.
Coverage
Coverage depends on application method, texture, and moisture
content of wood. Coverage is less on rough surfaces, more on smooth
surfaces. Average coverage is 175-300 sq. ft. per gallon.
Cleanup
• Penofin is an oil-based product. Clean brushes and other
application materials with mineral spirits or paint thinner.
• AVOID SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION of oily rags.
Soak all used cloths in a covered metal bucket of water,
ensuring the cloths are completely covered with water. Cover
until they can be properly disposed at your local hazardous
materials drop-off.
According to the Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001,
“Spontaneous combustion is a phenomenon in which a substance
unexpectedly bursts into flame without apparent cause. In ordinary
combustion, a substance is deliberately heated to its ignition point
to make it burn. Many substances undergo a slow oxidation that,
like the rapid oxidation of burning, releases heat. If the heat so
released cannot escape the substance, the temperature of the
substance rises until ignition takes place. Spontaneous combustion
often occurs in piles of oily rags, green hay, leaves, or coal; it can
constitute a serious fire hazard.”
Apply with garden pump sprayer, careful not to over saturate
Trouble-Shooting
A Sticky-Tacky
Surface
Hardwood Application
Avoid overapplication by following the
instructions we just covered. In the
event of an overapplication, use the following methods to resolve.
Use a brush or sprayer. Brushing gives best results. Brush
thoroughly and back brush Penofin into the wood leaving no excess.
Wipe entire surface after 20-30 minutes with a nap-freee cloth.
Do not allow film to develop on wood surface. Apply when there
is no chance of rain during the process or during the twelve-hour
drying time. If rain occurs spots may develop on wood surfaces. Do
not apply in direct hot sun! A minimum air temperature of 45° is
required during application and drying time.
TO REMOVE EXCESS:
• Allow Penofin to dry for seven days.
Repeat this application within 3-6 months and again within
10-12 months. Over time the wood fibers will become fully
protected and maintenance will become less frequent. Product
should be applied more often to horizontal areas and also
areas with high ultra-violet exposure or heavy traffic. Store all
oily cloths in water in a metal bucket until properly disposed.
• Use Penofin Protech Cleaner and
scrub the surface with a nylon or
natural bristle brush. Do not use
metal brushes.
COVERAGE:
• You may also use Penofin Wood
Stripper for tough jobs.
400 square feet per gallon.
Maintenance
• When you use Penofin maintenance is a snap. Because Penofin is
a low-solid product, there is no stripping or sanding necessary.
Simply wash the surface with water and a mild detergent. Allow
wood surface to dry completely, approximately 48 hours.
• Follow the application methods listed on the previous page for a
fresh and beautiful wood surface
• Allow the surface to dry for 48 hours
before reapplying
CAUTION COMBUSTIBLE! Keep this product away from heat, open flame, and sparks.
Avoid prolonged contact with skin and breathing vapor or spray mist. Use only with
adequate ventilation. Do not take internally. Shelf life is limited once factory seal is
broken; secure lid tightly after use. Avoid spontaneous combustion - make sure all rags
and brushes are soaked in water, stored in an airtight container, or otherwise disposed
of safely.
KEEP THIS AND ALL PENOFIN PRODUCTS OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.
Wipe off all excess with a nap-free cloth.
Wood should not be glossy, finish dries flat matte.
Submerse all oily rags in water

Application of Interior Penofin®
Use PENOFIN on cabinets, flooring, furniture, and art objects.
Application:
• Shake well and stir thoroughly. Do not thin or blend with
other products. For best results, prepare the wood by sanding
with the grain, using 150-grit or finer sandpaper and wipe
clean.
• Start with these five easy steps to achieve a beautiful wood
finish. For best results read the label.
1. PREPARE:
To start, work with a dry wood surface free of old finishes, paint,
wax, grease, polish, and dirt. Repair any cracks or defects. Get
a FREE Penofin color sample (see the paint counter or call
1-800-Penofin). Buy your favorite Penofin Finish and you’re ready
to apply.
2. FOR MATTE FINISH:
To begin, stir product thoroughly. Apply one coat with a brush,
foam pad, or lint-free finishing cloth in a well-ventilated area.
Wipe surface after 20-30 minutes. For rough-sawn wood, back
brush with a dry paint brush to remove surface product. The
surface will be useable after 12 hours. It’s that easy and quick!
Ready for wet-sanding in 24 hours.
For Wet-sanding method Use this method for a high-gloss
finish. Wet-sanding with PENOFIN creates a natural paste that
fills the pores of the wood, and eliminates the need for a sanding
sealer or paste filler. Begin as for matte finish.
3. Apply PENOFIN to a small area.
With 400- to 600-grit wet/dry sandpaper, sand with the grain and
keep the area wet with PENOFIN. Wipe the area dry and repeat
the process until grain is filled and desired patina is achieved.
Buff to a polish with a clean, soft cloth. If desired, a polyurethane
varnish or lacquer may be applied over PENOFIN after one week.
4.MAINTAIN:
Burnishing with a soft dry cloth or a floor buffer will preserve
the beauty of Penofin enriched wood. Touch up with Penofin
as needed. Visit www.penofin.com or call 1-800-Penofin for
customer service support and details.
5. CLEANUP:
Use mineral spirits or paint thinner. Avoid spontaneous
combustion; submerse used cloths in a bucket of water until
properly disposed at your local hazmat drop-off.
20
Color Test
Call 1-800-PENOFIN for samples.
It is best to test PENOFIN on your wood to determine the desired
color. The shade can be affected by the type of wood, the manner
applied, the length of time the oil is left on, and by the number of
coats. If the desired color is attained with one coat of a pigmented
formula, the wet-sand process may be done with PENOFIN
Natural.
Maintenance
Burnishing with a soft, dry cloth or buffer will maintain the
beauty of PENOFIN-enriched wood. Because PENOFIN is a
penetrating oil, damaged areas, scratches, or stains may be repaired
wet-sanding with PENOFIN Natural.
CleanUp
Use mineral spirits or paint thinner.
Caution & Warnings
• Combustible - keep this product away from heat, open flame,
and sparks.
• Beware of spontaneous combustion. Make certain all rags or
other materials used with PENOFIN are soaked in water,
stored in an air-tight container, or otherwise disposed of
safely.
• Avoid contact with skin and breathing vapor or spray mist.
Use only with adequate ventilation. Do not take internally.
• If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Call a physician
immediately.
• Refer to Material Safety Data Sheet and product label for
more information.
• Shelf life is limited once factory seal is broken. Secure lid
tightly after each use.
Keep this and all PENOFIN products out of the reach of
children.

rather than cost. Penofin’s special ingredients and innovations have
made it the finest wood finish available.
N
Penofin is the original high-performance wood finish; it is a lowsolid, nonfilm coating. There is no transparent wood finish on
the market today formulated from, or using the same, ingredients.
Penofin’s performance has made it the finest wood finish available.
Solvent: The solvent in Penofin helps disperse the oils in the
formula and then will evaporate after application. If
the solvent evaporates too quickly, Penofin will not
dry uniformly. A fast evaporation rate would limit the
penetration and allow dirt to adhere to the finish. The
strength of the solvent complements the resin system,
enabling ease of recoating. Penofin’s solvent system was
created to allow maximum disbursement and a stable
evaporation rate, and for ease of application.
Binder: The Penofin binder system consists of resins and oils, and
was formulated to offer the deepest penetration. Wood
fibers will not dry out when protected and maintained,
thus, avoiding the major reason for cracking. These oils
create a microporous finish which is flexible, and allows
the Penofin finish to breathe. The wood will not split and
water can exit as a vapor.
Alkyd resin: The component of the Penofin binder is a combination
of polyhydric alcohol and fatty acid. These resins impart
hardness (without brittleness) to the wood fibers. Fatty
acids are triglycerides that are the basic acids obtained
from linseed, soya, safflower, and walnut oil.
Brazilian Rosewood Oil: The primary oil in Penofin is a strong,
flexible, water-resistant oil which is also ultraviolet
resistant. It is an oil that is harvested from the seeds of
the rosewood tree in Northeastern Brazil. The trees are
carefully preserved for the oil-rich seeds and are used as
shade trees in coffee production. No trees are harvested
to obtain Brazilian Rosewood Oil.
Mildewcide: We use the finest possible mildewcide to retard and
prevent the growth of mildew.
Pigments: Penofin was the industry innovator in the use of
transoxide pigments. They were first developed for
the automotive industry. These pigments create the
long-lasting metallic finishes on today’s cars. They also
penetrate to coat the individual wood fibers to provide
even more protection from the inside out, as seen in the
blotter comparison tests.
Solids: The solids in Penofin are those parts of the formula
left after the solvent evaporates. There are no cheap
extenders, inert, or filler-type solids in Penofin. This
means the surface will not turn chalky or build up.
Understanding Mildew
22
M
ildew is a lower form of plant life, a fungus that can
settle on any surface. Under the right conditions it can
colonize. Mildew reproduces and spreads through spores that
bury themselves under the surface of wood or sheet rock, there
it remains until warm, moist conditions spur its growth. Mildew
needs a food source to grow. Among food sources are wood, wood
resins, grass, tree pollens, and nutrient-rich dirt. Often mildew is
actually growing on dirt or pollen surfaces that have accumulated
on wood. Mildew spores thrive when they have food, moisture,
air, and temperatures between 40°-90° degrees fahrenheit.
All
exterior
building
materials are affected by
mildew. Even fresh lumber
when delivered to the job site
can have mildew spores and
developing colonies. Patio
furniture, concrete sidewalks,
and stucco siding are often
affected by mildew. Mildew
does not affect the strength of
wood fibers, but its unsightly
appearance detracts from
its natural beauty. Fungus
and molds, like all living
organisms, have the ability
to adapt in order to survive.
Therefore it is a good idea
to alternate your mold and
mildew cleaners periodically
for best results.
Mildewcides: Almost all paint and wood finish products contain
mildewcides in their formulas. Penofin uses the best
possible mildewcides available.
Maintenance: The best weapon against mildew on wood is
frequent cleaning. Washing with a solution of water
and mild detergent will maintain a surface less likely to
support mildew growth.
Test for Mildew: If you suspect that you have mildew growth
on a surface, test it by washing it with a 50/50 solution
of water and household bleach. If there is noticeable
lightening of the surface color, mildew is present.
Treatment: Mildewed surfaces may be treated by using a
commercial mildew remover, or a solution of detergent
and water with one cup of added bleach. Scrub the area
with a stiff-bristled natural or synthetic fiber brush.
Allow the solution to work for 30 minutes. Rinse well
with water. Let the surface dry for 48 hours. If, after
this treatment, the wood remains discolored due to
weathering or acidified tannin, an application of ProTech Brightener® will rejuvenate your wood to a freshly
milled look without sanding. After 48 hours, when the
wood is completely dry, you are ready to apply Penofin
to maintain its natural beauty.
Understanding
Extractive Bleeding
E
xtractives include tannins and other polyphenolics, coloring
oils, resins, and gums. They contribute to such properties
as color, odor, decay, and flammability. Water-soluble extractives
will cause stain discoloration. Nonwater-soluble extractives such
as pitch and resin may bleed through the surface and harden there
when the solvent evaporates.
Wood can be finished with Penofin to
achieve just about any look desired.
Naturally occurring chemicals in the
wood itself can migrate to the surface and
discolor the finish. The chance of getting
discoloration depends on many factors,
including wood species, moisture content,
and construction practices.
Pro-Tech Brightener, a wood brightener
and cleaner, easily removes discoloration.
The active ingredient in Pro-Tech Brightener
is phosphoric acid, and it’s safe and
biodegradable formula removes tannins
that have risen to the surface and burned
by the sun. Pro-Tech Brightener removes
these tannins and restores wood to its
original appearance.
Certain metals commonly found in
nails cause extractive bleeding by mixing
with wood tannins causing a dark stain.
Pro-Tech Brightener® can remove this
stain quickly and easily by following the
directions on the label!

Penofin® Products FAQs
P
ENOFIN® makes a complete line of interior and exterior
finishes. PENOFIN also manufactures Pro-Tech Brightener® and offers the Chapin Sprayer. PENOFIN products
were designed with quality in mind, and contain the finest ingredients.
We are often asked what makes PENOFIN different or better than
other products. To answer that, we have compiled a list of the most
common questions asked about the PENOFIN product line.
Q. Can I paint or varnish over a PENOFIN surface?
A. Yes. Allow 7-10 days drying time for surface to be completely
dry and cured. Water- or oil-based products can be used.
Q. Can I use PENOFIN on furniture?
A. Yes. PENOFIN has a Gold-Line of 10 interior finishes.
Q. Can I use PENOFIN on a cutting board or wooden bowl?
A. No. PENOFIN is not a food-grade product.
Q. How does it compare to other stains on the market?
A. View PENOFIN’s blotter tests at www.penofin.com. PENOFIN penetrates better than any other product on the market. It
is the only product with Brazilian Rosewood Oil. PENOFIN
is one of the few products containing transoxide pigments, the
colorant developed to give automobiles their tough finish and
resist ultraviolet damage.
Q. Is it necessary or advisable to back-prime siding?
A. Yes. With PENOFIN.
Q. I want to put a clear finish on my deck/home. What do I use?
A. We have a Clear in both Blue and Red Label. The Clear tone
products allows the wood to weather naturally. Our complete
product line was formulated to show the beauty of the wood.
24
Q. After applying PENOFIN, I have areas that are shiny and
areas that are not. What is wrong and how do I fix it?
A. In most cases this indicates overapplication. After 24 hours
drying time, wash the surface with Pro-Tech Cleaner; with
some heavy scrubbing this should correct the problem. Rinse
well. Power washing at 600 psi may also be used.
Q. How long will it last on my deck/house?
A. On a horizontal surface, PENOFIN Red Label may be expected
to perform for an average of 9-24 months, and 2-5 years on a
vertical surface. The time will vary depending on the percentage
of sunlight and weather. Our premium lines are formulated to
last longer.
Q. If I apply one color of PENOFIN (Example: Transparent
Redwood) and I want to go with another color of PENOFIN when reapplication is needed (Example: Sierra), can I
do that?
A. Yes. All PENOFIN colors contain the same ingredients, just
different amounts of colored pigments. However, you will not
be able to make the surface lighter by applying a lighter shade.
As always, you should test a small area before use.
Q. Can PENOFIN be applied over another stain?
A. No, not without proper surface preparation. Recommendation
is to clean surface and remove previous finish, usually by a pressure washing or sanding. The exception is Penofin over Penofin.
Q. How long does PENOFIN take to completely dry and cure
into the wood?
A. Penofin dries to the touch in 3 hours and is serviceable in 12
hours; it is fully cured in 7 days.
Q. Do you have anything to cover pressure-treated wood?
A. Any PENOFIN colors can be used on any type of wood. For
pressure-treated wood we recomend 99% UV PENOFIN for
Pressure-Treated Wood in Rainer, Yosemite, and Tahoe, or 90%
UV Blue Label Chestnut or Sable.
Q. How can I tell if the wood is too hot to apply PENOFIN?
A. If the surface is hot to the touch, it is too hot to apply PENOFIN. Be particularly careful in the heat of the day. Product can
flash and dry on the surface without penetrating.
Q. What do I do if my wood has mildew growing on it?
A. Use Penofin Pro-Tech Cleaner.®
Q. Does PENOFIN bead water?
A. No, it does not need to. Penofin has no wax by-products. Moisture passes through the wood as vapor. No warping, cracking,
or peeling.
Q. What about my deck getting wet?
A. There is nothing wrong with your wood getting wet (it was a
tree). However, standing water can lead to rot. PENOFIN will
help to protect your wood by coating the wood fibers.
Q. How do you distinguish interior PENOFIN from exterior
PENOFIN on the shelf?
A. Interior PENOFIN has a gold label and has the word interior
in the name.
Q. How do interior Gold-Line PENOFIN finishes compare
with other interior finishes?
A. Many are sold as a penetrating Danish oil finish. PENOFIN is
a penetrating oil finish using Brazilian Rosewood Oil. In blotter
tests against other stains, PENOFIN clearly penetrates farther.
Q. What kind of finish does Interior PENOFIN provide?
A. Interior PENOFIN products, when applied with a cloth or
brush, provide a matte finish. However, by wet-sanding, a highgloss furniture patina can be obtained.
Q. Can I mix the PENOFIN colors for my own finish?
A. The PENOFIN tones can be mixed with each other to obtain
the desired shade; Performance Coatings Inc. cannot warrantee
color consistency when the tone has been altered.
Q. How long will PENOFIN last on interior projects?
A. Depending on use, PENOFIN will last for years on interior
projects.
Q. How long should I let my new deck season before I apply
PENOFIN?
A. We recommend applying PENOFIN immediately without
allowing the wood to season for maximum protection.
Q. How do you reapply?
A. Simply clean the surface and reapply PENOFIN directly over
the old PENOFIN surface.
