guide your seeds with accuracy REBOUNDER SEED SEED COVERS COVERS REBOUNDER tmtm ReboundeRs O ver a decade ago, Paul Schaffert, CEO of Schaffert Mfg. and a producer himself was confronted with the issue of seed bounce and inconsistent spacing in the furrow. He understood how critical these two aspects of planting were and how they affected overall yields. As one of the leading No-Till innovators in the Midwest, he made it his goal to engineer a product that would address these issues. ELIMINATE seed bounce! After years of testing prototypes and countless hours in the field, Paul invented the Rebounder Seed Cover, a simple, but sophisticated tool that addresses the issues of seed placement and spacing. The Rebounder’s unique, spoon shape design forms to the V shape of the furrow. Paul recognized the importance of creating a product that would work in conjunction with this V shape and not against it. Many of the firming products on the market today work against this theory especially in tougher clay type soils, by creating additional sidewall compaction as they press through the seed V applying pressure. The Rebounder’s spoon shape design flows gently down the furrow, not disturbing the soil or creating any additional compaction around the seed. The spoon shape design gradually narrows as it drops below the top soil surface to follow the V shape that is created by the double disc openers. The Rebounder’s unique “half moon design technology” on the bottom tip prevents the Rebounder from dragging the seed and allows it to run 3/8″ off the bottom of the furrow. Additionally and more importantly, since the Rebounder does not drag the bottom of the seed bed, it will not drag seeds nor build up with mud. BENEFITS OF THE REBOUNDER’S CONCAVE DESIGN ▶ Smooth concave design keeps the seed covered in the furrow and prevents seed bounce ▶ Built-in “neck flex technology” allows for flexibility of the Rebounder in all soils ▶ Upside down spoon shaped design forms to the Seed V ▶ Unique half moon tip prevents seed drag ▶ Rebounder improves germination and consistent emergence ELIMINATES COMMON PROBLEMS ▶ Rebounder will not build up with mud ▶ Will not bunch seeds Farm in southern Illinois ▶ Will not leave seeds lodged on sidewalls EASE OF INSTALLATION ▶ Designed to fit planters and drills ▶ Easy to install, less than 5 minutes per row H.R., KS5 or 6 years ago I put one IH 800 Rebounder on my planter and planted 100 acres. I ran short of time and after 100 acres I put the other 5 rows of Rebounders on. When I went to spray the field, the one row planted with the Rebounder was 8" tall and the other 5 rows were only 4"-5" tall. What a difference the Rebounders made! Planted with firming attachments ▶ Inconsistent seed spacing ▶ Uneven emergence Planted with Rebounders ▶ Consistent seed spacing ▶ Uniform emergence The Rebounder maintains consistent depth placement, generating higher yields through healthier plants. Without the Rebounder, inconsistent depth placement occurs with seeds landing 3/4″ to 1-3/4″ deep. Shallow planted seeds can cause poor root structure and reduced yields. Using Schaffert’s Dig-It Seed Finder to reveal seeds planted evenly and consistently in the furrow with the Rebounder FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Does the Rebounder pull soil in with the seed? The only time the Rebounder puts soil with the seed is in heavier wetter soils when the double discs that open the seed V orange peel the sidewall of the seed V. This is where the Rebounder shines over other attachments because it is shaped like the seed V. It will peel the lodged seeds off the orange peeled side wall funneling them to the bottom. Does the Rebounder pull loose dry soil off the soil surface and place with the seed? NO! The Rebounder is shaped like the seed V - it runs in the seed trench. The Rebounder enters the seed V directly behind the double disc openers and ahead of the gauge wheels that run alongside the seed V. This lets the Rebounder put all the seeds in the bottom of the seed V before the gauge wheels cave any dry soil in over the seed. The Rebounder assures you better germination being in the bottom of the V with moisture on three sides of the seed and dry soil on top. Does the Rebounder leave seeds stranded on the side wall of the seed V or press them in the side wall when they lodge along the side? NO! The patented concave shape of the Rebounder eliminates seeds from being stranded on the side wall. The Rebounder puts the seeds in the center of the bottom of the furrow. Other attachments with flat bottoms or rounded surfaces sometimes can leave seeds lodged in the side wall. As one producer put it when using other attachments, “It’s like stacking two ball bearings or two marbles and try pressing them into the soil - you never know where they will end up.” How long will the orange Rebounder last? A good rule of thumb is take the length of the bar of your planter or drill and add two zeros to it, then multiply that by three. The orange Rebounder will double to triple the life of the white Rebounder or others on the market. Many farmers planting or drilling many acres with the orange Rebounder have made the comment that the orange Rebounder will last the life of their disc blades. Will the Rebounder drag seeds in the seed furrow? NO! As the double discs or True V openers of the planter make the seed V opening, the Rebounder’s trailing end runs about 3/8″ off the bottom of the seed V. The Rebounder was designed to be wider than the bottom of the seed V thus letting it flex up off the bottom about 3/8". The half moon notch in the end of the Rebounder centers the seeds in the bottom letting them pass through without being drug along. Does mud build up on the Rebounder when soil conditions are sticky? NO! The Rebounder does not put pressure in the bottom of the seed V where mud build-up can occur in heavier wetter soils. We tell producers that if they feel comfortable planting and it is wet that they don’t have to worry about the Rebounder building up with mud and dragging seeds. Part of the no mud build-up is due to the flexibility built into the Rebounder above the spoon area. This will be discussed in the next question. Does the Rebounder need to be adjusted for proper tension in the seed V? NO! The Rebounder is designed out of plastics that have an automatic flexibility built into it to compensate for different soil types and conditions one might be planting in. This designed flexibility was built in above the spoon area and below the tie or bolted area of the Rebounder. This simple design eliminates the need for built-in tension adjustment that makes it confusing to adjust in different soil types and soil conditions. YOU ONLY HAVE ONE CHANCE TO GET IT RIGHT Uneven seed spacing and inconsistent depth placement are two of the top contributors to decreased yields. The Rebounder Seed Cover has been eliminating these two issues for over a decade. Installation is a snap with the Rebounder Seed Cover. Depending on the model of planter or drill, we have a Rebounder that fits. For most planters the Rebounder is attached to the seed tube. We’ve utilized this mounting method for years and have found it to be safe and effective. The Rebounder is designed to work with the seed tube, not against it, serving as a stabilizer that keeps the seed tube in the center of the furrow. Other attachments on the market place approximately 1.5 pounds of pressure on the seed, causing uneven emergence. This pressure on the seed pushes it deeper in softer soils and leaves it shallower in firmer soils creating a wave effect in the depth placement. The Rebounder Seed Cover is designed to funnel the seed to the bottom of the seed V, also ensuring that it will eliminate seed bounce, uneven spacing, and seeds flipped on top of the soil. THE RESULTS Technology designed to give you consistent seed placement and accurate depth control, leading to improved germination and consistent emergence. Co. keeps up with technology, and introduces new innovative brackets to mount on new seed tubes and planter units. PRECISION BULLSEYE® SEED TUBE New for 2014 is an insert for the Precision BullsEye seed tubes. This attachment will eliminate having to cut on the Rebounder in order to mount it to the seed tube. The new insert can be attached to the Rebounder before installing to the seed tube. Four Rebounder mounts recently introduced fit Precision Planting®’s BullsEye® seed tubes, Kinze EdgeVac®, Precision Planting’s WaveVision® seed tubes, and the White 9000 Series planters. The Rebounder mount for new Case IH seed boots has also been updated to boost performance. We work closely with farmers and dealers, and have had much success with the many planters equipped with these new attachments. Each new Rebounder and mount has been made to work with our infurrow fertilizer options (see next page). NEW CASE IH SEED BOOTS BullsEye Seed Tube PRECISION WAVEVISION® Precision Plantings’ new WaveVision seed tube has a sensor placed where the Rebounder used to mount. The angle on the back of the seed tube has changed, so we developed a new angled bracket to put the curve back into the end of the tube. The Rebounder can be bolted to the angled bracket and run at the proper angle in the seed furrow for correct placement of the seeds. New guard Farmers were having difficulties with their Rebounders twisting on the new Case IH seed boots. We have introduced a new guard to eliminate this problem. With the updated mounting bracket, the Rebounder stays centered on the seed boot in the furrow.
