WHEREAS, the Guam Community College (GCC) Veterans Club was

established to provide a network of support to military veterans, their families, and
5
civilian supporters, as well as to educate the community about the experiences of

military veterans and to work with GCC' s administration to meet the needs of student
2
veterans and prospective student veterans. The Club strives to cultivate student
3
veterans' concerns through scheduled meetings, advocacy, social and recreational
4
activities, and to foster esprit de corps among student veterans and promote an
5
understanding of student veteran issues; and
6
WHEREAS, the Guam Community College Veterans Club was established on
7
September 11, 2015; and, its Officers are: Mr. Rodney A. Cruz, Jr., President; Mr.
8
Makisimino Veimau, Vice President; Ms. Jessica Kee, Secretary; Mr. Victor Fernandez,
9
Public Relations Officer; Mr. Justin Rosario, Treasurer; and Mr. Dennis Santo Tomas
10
and Mr. Fred Tupaz, Advisors; and
11
\VHEREAS, the Guam Community College Veterans Club consists of active
12
students looking to provide assistance and guidance to incoming and current veteran
13
students; and
14
WHEREAS, over the next five (5) years, more than ten thousand (10,000)
15
service members will become veterans, and together with their families, they will begin
16
their journey in transitioning from a military to a civilian life, with many veterans
17
looking forward to attending an institution of higher learning on Guam. For many
18
veterans and their families, reintegration is a complex, multifaceted process that
19
involves finding a "new normal" in the realm of becoming a student and being an active
20
member of society; and
21
WHEREAS, the GCC Veterans Club is an organization that provides a social
22
group setting to help veterans adjust and become successful in both their civilian and
23
college life. It also serves as a social and informational system that provides a non-
24
political environment in which fellow veterans can meet and build the camaraderie that
25
service members are accustomed to while serving in the military; and

WHEREAS, the Guam Community College recogmzes and praises the
2
remarkable contributions and sacrifices made by the members of the Armed Forces, and
3
it welcomes veterans and military families to successfully navigate the academic and
4
administrative pathways of a college education. GCC has been selected by The 1\1ilitary
5
Times as a "Best for Vets" institution for two (2) years in a row, and is recognized by
6
the National Chapter of Student Veterans of America (SVA); and
7
WHEREAS, members of the Club work to achieve several goals, such as
8
encouraging college spirit, initiating and cultivating fellowship with students on
9
campus, assisting with providing valuable information to veterans, integrating veteran
10
students into social events and campus activities, and organizing projects and events
11
pertaining to veterans' needs. On July 8, 2014, two hundred forty-two (242) soldiers in
