Cloud Interoperability

Cloud Interoperability BoF Session / Group Discussion Florian Feldhaus -‐ GWDG Agenda •  Introduction to cloud interoperability •  Overview of current challenges in cloud interoperability •  Collaboration with other organizations •  Survey of existing plug-‐fests and other interoperability points of contact •  Collecting ideas, approaches and experience as starting point for a new Cloud Interop WG •  Collaboration with other organizations •  Next steps Introduction to cloud interoperability •  Interoperability in Cloud Computing is of increasing importance. Several cloud standards have emerged in recent years and implementations for them are starting to show up. •  Customers and providers interested in using the standards are requiring best-‐practise documents for using or implementing the different standards and also rely on information how they can combine multiple standards. Overview of current challenges in cloud interoperability •  Several different Cloud Standards from different parties are existing •  Several OGF standards currently not or only partly ready for the cloud •  A consistent OGF Cloud Portfolio is needed •  strategies for combining different Cloud Standards / APIs are needed •  existing implementations of Cloud APIs need to get interoperable •  Combined Interoperability Verification Suites need to be developed •  People need to be brought together to talk about issues in specifications and implementations Collaboration with other organizations •  SNIA –  Collaborative organization of Plugfests for CDMI & OCCI –  OCCI and CDMI share links in the specification –  SNIA just started a Cloud Interoperability group targeted at Cloud Storage •  ETSI –  Interested in doing interoperability testing for Cloud APIs –  Offered help with organizing plugfests and coordinating interoperability testing •  CSCC –  End-‐users interested in the adoption of Cloud standards •  DMTF –  Working on Cloud standards such as OVF and CIMI –  Open for a closer collaboration with OGF regarding OCCI and CIMI •  NIST –  NIST Working Definition of Cloud Computing –  Cloud Computing Use Cases Survey of existing plug-‐fests and other interoperability points of contact •  SNIA Cloud Plugfest targeting OCCI & CDMI –  Recently organized for the 4th time –  Very productive, brings together developers and members of standardization bodies –  >50 participants from all around the world –  Large participation by companies –  Can be easily extended to incorporate other standards •  ETSI Plugtests –  Long history of organizing plugtests for Telecommunications standards –  Developed tools for documenting the standards compliance status of implementations Collecting ideas, approaches and experience as starting point for a new Cloud Interop WG •

What do you see as the current challenges? What should a Cloud Interoperability WG target? Who should be involved? How can we reach out? Where are possible overlaps with other existing groups from within OGF or from other standardization bodies? •  What do you understand by Cloud Interoperability? Next steps •
