Math MSC – Tips to Succeed This course requires students to have a balance of strong math ability and strong work ethic. Success is never guaranteed, and failure is around every corner. Please use the following as a checklist to try and improve: Basic tips I always bring my math notebook, homework book, pencil case and calculator to every class I don’t miss math class…ever I copy every lesson, including all examples, into my notebook I complete all homework to the best of my ability I correct my homework when we go over the answers in class I complete the practice questions at the start of a class to the best of my ability I ask questions in class when something doesn’t make sense I go over the corrections to quizzes when they are returned to me I go over the corrections to tests when they are returned to me I go in for extra help at lunch whenever I have a problem I make a thorough memory aid before a test I look at the calendar online to know what is coming up I look at my marks online to know where I’m at When I am absent, I copy down the lesson I missed in my notebook When I am absent, I complete the homework that I missed When I am absent, I watch the video lesson on Youtube When I am absent, I talk to Mr. Khan just to make sure I haven’t missed anything else I make arrangements with Mr. Khan regarding my IEP Intermediate Tips I rewatch the video lessons on Youtube if I’m having problems I do question after question after question…until it becomes muscle memory I complete at least 3 different practice quizzes before a real quiz I complete at least 3 different practice tests before a real test When working on a practice quiz or test, I actually do the questions first, then look at the answers afterwards I complete practice quizzes at least 2 days in advance I complete practice tests at least 3-4 days in advance I complete practice exams at least 3-4 weeks in advance I make a schedule to get extra help at lunch, and I stick to it When I go in for lunch time help, I force myself to ask at least one math question When I go in for lunch time help, I try working through questions on the board so that others can see, and we can help each other out I talk to students in the other grade 10 Science Math sections to find out what is on their quizzes and their tests I have found a better balance between my academics, my extra-curriculars, and my social life Advanced Tips I read over the lesson before we learn it in class I watch the lesson on Youtube before we learn it in class I have a separate notebook for practice quizzes and tests When working on a practice quiz or test, I try and re-create the environment (no distractions, no help, no answers, time-limit) When marking a practice quiz or test, I bring it to Mr. Khan for him to mark it, instead of marking it myself For the midyear exam, I will start collecting practice exams during the month of November, then I will start completing 1 exam every week during the months of December and January. Before starting a practice exam, I will ask Mr. Khan to circle the questions that I can complete at that time. For the final exam, I will start collecting practice exams during the month of March, then I will start completing 1 exam every week during the months of April and May. Before starting a practice exam, I will ask Mr. Khan to circle the questions that I can complete at that time. In the back of my notebook, I write down any questions that I didn’t get right…then I redo them Other Tips I have a private tutor that I see weekly I access the Learn Quebec website for free online tutoring I will attend the afterschool Mock Exams to prepare for the midyear exam I will attend the afterschool Mock Exams to prepare for the final exam
