Facts to ShareCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
Clara Barton lived in Washington D.C. when the Civil War started. She
saw that the army was unprepared to take care of wounded soldiers, so
she collected and delivered medical supplies to the battlefield. Her nursing
services in the field earned her the nickname “Angel of the Battlefield.”
After the war, she traveled to Europe and learned about a new organization
that helped war victims—the Red Cross. When she returned home she
established the American Red Cross.
