Lesson Plan Grade 2, Chapter 9, God Gives Us Laws Lesson Objective: To explain that the Great Commandment and the Ten Commandments help us to live as God’s children Before beginning your lesson plan, please review the Overview, Catechist Background, and Lesson Planning Guide at the beginning of the Chapter and then review the suggestions that surround each page of the student lesson pages. When you have decided which activities you would like to incorporate into your lesson, please be sure to request the materials in advance from the PREP Office. Define respect: Respect is how you feel about someone Having respect for someone means you think good things about who a person is or how he/she acts. You can have respect for others, and you can have respect for yourself. Ten Commandments Memory Game a. This activity reinforces the text of the Ten Commandments. b. Adapted From: http://catholicblogger1.blogspot.com c. Print two copies of the game cards, best on velum. Cut them out and fold and either tape them together or laminate them for future use. d. Children take turns playing the matching game. 3. Great Commandment & Moses Activity Sheet a. The Great Commandment activity reinforces the text of the Great Commandment. The Moses Activity Sheet provides information about the original text of the Ten Commandments as well as providing a fun activity. b. Great Commandment activity adapted from: www.ChristianPreschoolPrintables.c om c. Precut hearts – PREP Office has a die cutter available d. Students draw a line down the middle of the heart and add text on one side. e. On the other side, students write “The Great Commandment.” f. The Moses Activity Sheet contains a maze. If time permits, students can color Moses and the Ten Commandments picture.
