1 ABOUT: The Sexy Health Carnival was created as a way to break the barriers of fear, stigma and shame, relating to issues that we face in our communities. It has safer practices content that makes learning about issues that affect our bodies more accessible and most importantly more fun to learn about for inspiring youth, community members and Elders! Various booths range from topics such as suicide, harm reduction, consent, sexual violence prevention, STI’s, birth control and self pleasure! The carnival is also jam packed with prizes, culturally safe information, and safer sex supplies. What people really love however are our interactive games that include a trivia dart toss, button making, and our body empowerment spin the wheel game! **If you or your community/organization is interested in hosting the Sexy Health Carnival please contact Alexa Lesperance at [email protected]** 2 1) HIV/AIDS ⇒ ⇒ ⇒ ⇒ What is HIV and AIDs/ Ways of transmission Naming stigma and shame as the real “risk” Ways we protect ourselves and others Example of an activity: Myth busting flash card game: We look at different activities or actions and deicide if it is possible to transmit HIV/AIDslike being in a sweat lodge with someone, getting bit by a mosquito, sharing needles, breastfeeding to name a few. 2) Birth Control ⇒ ⇒ ⇒ ⇒ Options and need to knows when considering birth control At a glance for different types of birth control Where to go if you have questions Emergency Contraceptive information Example of an activity: Birth control demo kit- physical demos of different types of birth control options, so we can for real see what things look like and how/where it sits in the body. 3 3) Youth parenting and taking care of our families ⇒ Option planning: ending the pregnancy, adoption or continuing the pregnancy ⇒ Ask Auntie Kanerahtenhawi: One of our amazing youth leaders shares her thought/experiences and how to overcome some challenges she had as a young Indigenous mama ⇒ Breastfeeding tips/supports ⇒ Midwifery supports Example of one of the many take away, supports we have! 4) Two Spirit and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transexual, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual ⇒ Explanation of LGBTTQQIA acronym ⇒ What Two-Spirit means, and what the roles/responsibilities can look like ⇒ Reasons/purpose of Creator assigning Two-Spirit people as our leaders ⇒ How to support Two-Spirit Youth ⇒ Examples of traditional names for Two-Spirit across Turtle Island Example of some of the many take away supports, we have! 4 5) Relationships, Limits and Consent ⇒ Talking about what it means to have a relationships, the types we have including the relationship to ourselves, family, and the land ⇒ Ways we can learn about what a healthy relationship can look like from the land ⇒ Free, Prior, and Informed consent – what that for real looks like in a relationship ⇒ Violence prevention and safety ⇒ Honoring missing and Murdered Indigenous women Example of an activity: Listing characteristics of what a balanced relationship could look like (two way communication, talking about boundaries, etc) and an un-balanced relationship (feeling afraid, violence) 6) STI’s and Blood Borne infections ⇒ Classification of the three main types of infections (Parasites, bacteria and virus) ⇒ Myth busting- for example letting people know that you can’t tell just by looking at someone if they have an STI because many people have no obvious symptoms! ⇒ How STI’s/Blood Borne infections can be spread Example of an activity: Matching common STI’s to their associated symptom 5 7) Self Harm, Self Injury, Suicide ⇒ ⇒ ⇒ ⇒ What is self injury/harm? Suicide in community: why people are pushed to that point How to support youth around these issues Practical tips/supports for people feeling suicidal Example of an activity: Wreck it journal blow up activity- Involves having a conversation of ways we cope with hurt, disappointment, stress, etc. We recreate a page from the wreck it journal on larger paper (examples from the journal include: name one thing you are proud of, write one word you want to re-claim, over and over) 8) Harm Reduction ⇒ What harm reduction is ⇒ Practical tips for safer drug injection, snorting and drug use ⇒ Ways we can support our communities and ourselves Example of take away supports: needle disposal bins
