Northumberland Step into Sport Conference
10 leaders from Ponteland High School and 9 Leaders from
KEVI attended the Northumberland Step into Sport
Conference at the new Ashington Leisure Centre. The
conference brought together Northumberland’s best young
leaders from both mainstream and special schools.
Following the conference the leaders will have the
opportunity to complete a leadership qualification in either
Sitting Volleyball or Boccia. They will then be able to use
these skills when helping with the Northumberland Para
Games on Tuesday 26th April. Leaders were inspired by 3
Sports stars on the day: Tamara Taylor is an English female
rugby union player who captained England in the 2015
Women’s Six Nations Championship. Christian Roberts who
is a Welsh former professional footballer. Alicia Armstrong
a 14 year old swimmer who after being diagnosed with
acute myeloid leukaemia in 2012 received a lifesaving bone
marrow transplant, which has allowed her to get back in
the pool. She won an astonishing 5 gold medals and 2
silver medals in the World Transplant Games in Argentina.

assist with transition to middle school,
especially for some schools whereby
the shear walk to Chantry was a lesson
in transition itself! Students enjoyed a

Hockey and Netball in order to develop
their skills prior to the uptake of these
sports at middle school.
