Wine notes From JetBlue’s wine expert, Jon Bonné. WHITE WINE Copain Tous Ensemble Chardonnay, 2014, Anderson Valley Wells Guthrie continues to show how great the modern California style of Chardonnay can be. Ripe tree fruit finds a refreshing counterpoint in the deep mineral aspects that Anderson Valley’s best vineyards can offer. Deeply textured but not buttery, it’s a wine that’s perfect for nearly any meal. Bedrock Wirz Vineyard Riesling, 2014, Cienega Valley The old Airline Highway once guided pilots between San Francisco and Los Angeles, and in 1963, a parcel of Riesling was planted nearby – now some of the oldest Riesling vines in California. Morgan Twain-Peterson shows his winemaking talent with this fully dry Riesling, which brims with the fresh citrus and vibrant mineral flavors that make this grape so special. RED WINE Calera Pinot Noir, 2013, Central Coast Josh Jensen returned from Burgundy in the 1970s, convinced he could make California Pinot as good as the Old World’s. Today his Calera wines have become legendary. Which is why you shouldn’t miss his Central Coast blend – its robust cherry flavors and warm spice are perfect to enjoy right now. Folkway Revelator Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013, California Brothers Anthony and Lino Bozzano collaborated on this outstanding Cabernet-based blend (with Merlot and Cabernet Franc). A burst of robust, dark fruit is balanced by the great freshness of Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz Mountains vineyards. Here’s a perfect example of why Cabernet remains one of California’s great calling cards. SPARKLING WINE Roederer Estate Brut, NV, Anderson Valley Roederer Estate Brut Rosé, NV, Anderson Valley Three decades ago, famed Champagne house, Louis Roederer, pioneered in Anderson Valley, seeking to make a California sparkling wine worthy of its name. Its Brut remains a New World benchmark – full of ripe cherry, lemon and puff pastry flavors, as expressive as Champagne, but very much a Golden State creation. As a special treat to Mint customers, Roederer has also made some of its limited-production rosé available onboard this month.
