Appendix 7 Funding and Research areas – Development Research 2008-2013 This is a compilation of VR funding granted the past six years to development research, put together to be used as supporting material in the thematic overviews. The statistics is describing what research areas have received funding, and is mainly focused on project grants. Funded projects, all types of grants 2008-2013 Below is a table of all approved applications each year. International postdoc, International planning grant and project grant Uforsk 2008-2012 are all applications transferred to VR from Sida. The approved project grants within Medicine and Health (2011-2012) are only partially funded by Global health funding. Please note that some project grants approved by Sida may not have been transferred to VR depending on funding period, and are missing in this compilation. Only funding going out through VR is included at this time. 2013 VR received 371 Uforsk project grant applications, and 137 applications for International collaboration grants – Swedish Research Links. International postdoc International collaboration grant - SRL International planning grant Project grant MH (partial funding Global health) Project grant U-forsk Total 2008 2009 76 12 54 16 88 70 2010 50 50 2011 2 43 2012 1 47 13 35 93 16 36 100 2013 47 41 88 The classification of these funded grant applications are the basis for the following statistics, however most graphs include only Uforsk and MH Global health project grant funding, unless otherwise specified. About the classification All applications have been classified according to the SCB classification of research areas (Statistics Sweden, www.scb.se). The SCB codes are divided into six areas: Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Medical and Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities. These area classifications are divided into more specific classifications, e.g. 1st Natural Sciences; 2nd Mathematics; 3rd Geometry. When applying for VR grants, the applicants can name up to three relevant scb codes, at the most specific level (3rd). 1 Appendix 7 Main themes Firstly, a look at the project grant funding transferred from Sida (2010-2012) and the project grant funding approved at VR (2013), divided into the three main areas (based on SCB classification) of the overview.
