Nutrition & Fitness is a 8-10 day unit. Some teachers cover it in as little as 6 days. The unit plan
would look something like the following: (* marks a learning activity)
DAY 1 – Powerpoint with notes on the 6 essential nutrients; *Ch 8 Personal inventory; Assign
vocabulary
DAY 2 – *Clicker review of Chapter 8.1-2; *Graphic organizer for Chapter 8.3-4
DAY 3 – Meal selection and special diets; *Fad diet evaluation (or fast food menu evaluation)
DAY 4 – Chapter 9 notes packet, *My plate activity
DAY 5 – VIDEO – Food Inc. (available online or on Netflix)
DAY 6 – Chapter 13 Fitness concepts, *Experiential learning – students demonstrate the components
of fitness & types of exercise
DAY 7 – Importance of Sleep; *Review/Re-teach/Reinforcement activity, get study guide for test
DAY 8 – UNIT TEST covering Nutrition & Fitness
