PROCLAMATION OF A WORSHIPFUL MASTER FOR A
SECOND YEAR
A: When a Chain-Bearing Officer is present
B: When a Grand Officer or Warden of the Province is the Principal Guest

A: WHEN A CHAIN BEARING OFFICER IS PRESENT
→
Open the Lodge
→
Minutes (and any other business i.e. ballot etc.)
→
EA’s to retire
→
Open up to Second Degree
→
WM says:
“Brethren, I would thank the following brethren to assist me in the next
part of the ceremony.”
→
PM’s to occupy posts of SW, JW and IG

Note that on this occasion they are not Installing Officers, as no
installation is to take place. If these offices are already occupied by PM’s
they could stay in place.

FC’s retire
→
Open up to Third Degree
→
Admit Chain Bearing Officer
→
WM greets and offers gavel
→
Salutations
→
IPM or DC proclaims the Master will remain in office viz ~
“The WM, WBro………has kindly agreed to remain in office as WM of this
lodge for a second year. I therefore proclaim Bro …………WM of this Lodge
for the ensuing year or until a successor shall have been duly elected and
installed in his stead”

No investiture of IPM
→
Ceremony to proceed as though you have closed the Board of Installed Masters. i.e:
“Brethren of ……………………….Lodge line up in the North. You will pass
around the lodge…” et cetera”
→
Say this in each degree and having previously designated brethren to line up:
→
Proclamations in the three degrees.

Note that the wording at the beginning is slightly different:
“Brethren, [during your temporary absence*] W.Bro………………………has
been proclaimed WM of this the ……… Lodge number…………in the register
of the Grand Loge of England until the next regular period of election…”
et cetera.
*This only applies if there are Fellowcrafts or Entered Apprentices present

The Working Tools only require to be presented and not explained, although to
explain them is not incorrect.

If there is to be no explanation of the Working Tools, then below is a
suggested piece of ritual
“I now present to you the Working Tools of a Master Mason which are
the Skerrit, Pencil and Compasses. WM as a highly respected PM of this
lodge and due to your knowledge of and expertise in the Craft, no
explanation of these tools is required.”

Remember to think about your visitors, they have come to see some
ceremonial work, so it is suggested that if you have some younger
members, then maybe you could ask them to explain the Working Tools.

Say:
WM, that concludes the ceremony of your Proclamation, you will now
revert to the summons.
