Pre-race announcements, warmup and opening ceremony will take place outside the East gate of the stadium. To ensure safety to all runners, both USATF-certified courses will be closed to traffic. The Half Marathon course will be closed for four hours, from 7:30 am until 11:30 am. Packet pick-up will be available at Luke’s Locker Plano, 5717 Legacy Rd, Suite 180, Plano, TX 75024 Wednesday, April 13 | 10:00am - 6:30pm Thursday, April 14 | 10:00am - 6:30pm Friday, April 15 | 10:00am - 6:30pm Registration will be available at packet pick-up through 5:30pm April 15, 2016. Please note, we will not have race day packet pick up or on-site registration on race morning. Please plan accordingly or make arrangements. Course Safety The Texas Big Star Half and 5K takes runners’ safety very seriously. The course will be blocked from outside traffic with barricades, cones, and Frisco police officers and vehicles monitoring intersections. There will be hydration stations every 2-3 miles, and Frisco Fire and Safety will be monitoring runners throughout the course and at the finish line. We encourage all runners to consult your individual physician, who can advise whether you are fit to run a half marathon or 5K and whether you should follow certain precautions and preparation. Starting line & pacing groups Half Marathon The Texas Big Star Half Marathon will begin promptly at 7:25 AM, with participants as follows: • • • Wheelchair, hand cycle and adaptive participants Elite runners All other Half Marathon entrants Runners should line up according to their projected finishing times; please look for your pacing group, led by one of our Luke’s Locker pacers. Walkers and slower runners are encouraged to start in the back of the group, helping to avoid collisions! Pacing groups will be available for the following times: •1:30 •2:00 •2:30 •3:00 •3:30 5K The Texas Big Star 5K will begin approximately at 7:45 AM. All runners should line up in front, again with the fastest projected finishing times starting at the front and slower runners and walkers behind. TIMING The Texas Big Star Half Marathon & 5K is a chip-timed race, with timing provided by Compton Time & Measure. • Split times will be taken at the 5K and 10K mark for the Half Marathon. Split times will not be available for the 5K. Official times will be taken from chip time, not gun time. • • You will not get an official time unless you are wearing your chip for the entire race. Be sure to pick up your chip at packet pick-up before the race. Timing chips are sensitive to angle and proximity with the timing mat so please follow all directions to ensure that the mat reads your chip. ON-COURSE HYDRATION & RESTROOMS Water and Gatorade stations will be available at the following mile markers on the Half Marathon course: • • • • • • Mile 2 Mile 4.5 Mile 6 Mile 8.5 Mile 10.8 Mile 12 There will be one hydration station on the 5K course, at Mile 1.7. Cups will be provided for both Half Marathon and 5K stations. Portable restrooms will be located throughout both courses, at the following mile markers: • • • • • • • • Mile 1 Mile 2 Mile 3 Mile 4.5 Mile 6 Mile 8.5 Mile 10.8 Mile 12 (also Mile 1.7 on the 5K route) MEDICAL / FIRST AID In addition to on-course monitoring by Frisco Police and Fire & Safety, a First Aid tent will be located in the Finishers Fest area at the end of the race. Frisco EMS will be on-site at the race start and finish for any emergencies. In the event of extreme or unsafe conditions on race day, the Texas Big Star Half & 5K may be altered or canceled to ensure the safety of all participants and the Frisco community. Changes to the status of the race will be communicated to the runners as soon possible! Absolutely no early starters are allowed on the racecourse. Individuals who violate this rule will be disqualified and will be asked to leave the course. No automobiles, bicycles, baby joggers or strollers, inline skates, pets or unofficial participants are allowed on the racecourse. While USATF allows the use of headphones or other similar devices, we ask that you do so at your own risk. Runner safety is a top priority for us. Please be mindful of the other participants around you to ensure a safe and enjoyable race for everyone. Anyone who intentionally cuts the course will be disqualified. Please note that there will be no bag check available on race day. Race participants, please plan accordingly. SPECTATORS Want to watch and support your favorite runners? Spectators are invited to hang out at Toyota Stadium to enjoy the live music and view the runners starting and finishing. For those spectators wanting to support their runners on the course, the best viewing areas will be on Rockhill Parkway (approximately miles 5-7). Vehicle access on Rockhill Parkway will be limited, so please plan to arrive according to the following guidelines: • Access Rockhill Parkway at Preston Road. Rockhill will be closed, but spec tators will be allowed entry • You will be directed to park in a single lane on the north side of Rockhill. A volunteer will be on hand to direct traffic. • Exit from Rockhill will be at the Dallas North Tollway and will require drivers to travel south on the Tollway. • It is important to note that in and out privileges on Rockhill will be very limited. We will also have live entertainment on this stretch of the course, which will be fun for both runners and spectators. RACE RESULTS AND AWARDS Race results will be available on tablets in the Finishers Fest area shortly after participants cross the finish line. Results will also be available post-race on our website at www. runtexasbigstar.com. The Texas Big Star Half Marathon & 5K features a number of exciting awards: Finishers • Each Half Marathon and 5K participant will receive a high-quality Texas Big Star Half Marathon & 5K medal. • Each Half Marathon and 5K finisher will also be entered in a drawing for an autographed Tim McGraw guitar. Half Marathon • • • The overall male, female and adaptive winners will receive an autographed Tim Mc Graw guitar. Upon completion of both the 5K and Half Marathon, a race finisher’s bib number will be randomly drawn and announced at the Finisher’s Fest.
