Calculation Explanations:
1.
How to calculate Monetary Risk:
Decide in percentage terms how much of your monetary capital you wish to risk in the trade, 1%, 2%, 3%, 5% etc then work out the monetary value of that percentage eg $2,000 account balance X
0.02 or 2% = $40 monetary risk which is 2% of your account balance.
2.
How to calculate Pip Exposure:
Take note of the markets pip location that you wish to trade, then work out precisely what your entry and exit price is and simply subtract the larger price from the smaller price, it does not matter
at this point whether you are buying or selling a market eg EURUSD entry price 1.0655 exit price (or stop loss) 1.0565 so 1.0655 – 1.0565 = 0.0090 or 90 pips because the pip location in this
particular market is to the 4th decimal place, so 90 pips is our pip exposure in this trade.
3.
What is the Monetary Risk Per Pip?
This figure shows you exactly how much you are risking/profiting per pip movement, this is a very important element to know to calculate trade size accurately.
4.
After monetary risk per pip is calculated, why is it necessary to divide by 10 or 50 with some of these markets?
The reason is because you want to convert your monetary risk per pip figure into a MT4 volume figure. To do this you simply need to divide by the unitary value of 1 standard lot size, which
obviously varies from market to market. The calculations above account for this conversion.
