& Attorneys Conference
“Racing for the Children”
What a great Conference; we were pleased
to have J. Scott Padgett,
Mayor of
Cabarrus county as well as John Mills, the
Executive Vice President with Cabarrus
County convention and visitors Bureau
(CVB).
The Cabarrus County convention and
visitors bureau was very instrumental in
assisting us throughout the planning year
for the conference – a BIG THANK YOU
TO THE CVB.
This year was one of our largest attended
events. Each day was an exciting, fun
filled, learning experience day with all
workshops being very well attended.
During breaks the wide hallways at the
Embassy Suites made it easier for attendees
to visit the Vendors and grab a snack.
Decorations for the opening session were
provided by The Cabarrus County Child
Support Office and the decorations for the
Thursday night Masquerade Ball were
made and donated by Mary Dillon, mother
of Susan Dillon, Supervisor in Cabarrus
County.
Auction; we received items donated from
various organizations. We had race tickets,
Nascar Hall of Fame tickets, shirts, hats, a
quilt and a desk. A big thank you to all that
worked to get these items; Louise Cooper,
mother of Cynthia Crudup at the State
Office, Pam Jenkins with Graham County
Child Support, Veronica Pinion with
Onslow County Child Support, Charlotte
Motor Speedway, Dale Earnhardt Inc.,
Roush Fenway Racing, and Stanley
Furniture. This is an event that we hope to
continue throughout the coming years.
As the outgoing President, I would like to
thank all the Board of Directors, council
members, presenters, attendees and
volunteers for their hard work and
dedication for the continuing education of
the North Carolina Child Support Program.
Thank you all for allowing me to serve as
your 2014 President!
Tammy Pearson
Immediate Past President
This year was our 30th Annual Training
Conference; we recognized Karen Evans
from Granville County for her winning
logo design. The logo was used on T-Shirts
sold at the conference as well as magnets
that were displayed on the wall directly
behind the podium and for the 2014
Conference Notebook.
This year we also had our 1st Annual Silent

RE: Pending Legislation Affecting Child Support
Dear Folks:
Listed below are the 5 current pending bills that affect child support in North Carolina.
It is important you read these bills and decide whether you agree or not. If you have concerns, please contact your
legislators or any one with connections to Raleigh to influence your legislator.
Out of the five pending bills, H308 sticks out as being especially problematic to the custodial parents, the attempt to
define “reasonable cost of medical insurance”. It can be read that the cost of insurance is reasonable if the cost is less
than 7% of the NCP’s gross income PER CHILD. On the surface it may seem to be beneficial to have some guidance as
to what is reasonable. But the ramifications can be very harsh to the client if passed. The custodial parent may never be
able to obtain insurance. This bill also may cause issues with the custodial parent obtaining medical insurance through
the Affordable Care Act. Please consider your position and let your legislator know.
If your agency has any feedback, comments or suggestions, please send them directly by email to Beth Hall,
[email protected].
Here is a list of the bills along with links to each:
H297
http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2015&BillID=HB297&submitButton=Go

http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2015&BillID=HB+308&submitButton=Go

http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2015&BillID=SB114&submitButton=Go
