Go half-L towards farm then half-R 7 6 superb views out over bay. Leave summit by path heading NW to regain bridleway after second wooden gate. Go L along bridleway. 7 through metal gate and farmyard to pick up metalled farm track back to lay-by. 5.7km/3½ miles After 800m, turn R onto lane and continue for 365m, following main road round L and join Lancashire Coastal Way when it heads off L under railway. Cross little bridge and continue on LCW over saltmarsh. Follow footpath sign through complex and into Far Arnside and along quiet lane following footpath signed ‘Silverdale’. 8 9 7.2km/4½ miles At crossroads go straight over and through gate following sign to ‘Holgates and Silverdale’. Go through two gates to get into site complex heading L along perimeter road. 9 3 3 8 8 4.8km/3 miles The next stretch requires some circumspection and beach is best avoided at high spring tides. There is a higher level path at edge of woods for those who don’t want to get their feet wet! Caution is also required on the narrow clifftop path to Park Point – especially in the wet. 2 5 7 7 4.2km/2½ miles At New Barns, take footpath on track L through caravan park and at junction of paths, follow middle path signposted to ‘White Creek’ and rejoin coast path just north of Arnside Point. START 8.2km/5 miles After stile, head L along foot of wooded crag towards limekiln chimney at Browns Houses. Wander over limestone slabs and join metalled coast road beyond cottages. Stay on road, following LCW round point towards Silverdale. 9 9.9km/6¼ miles Just past Lindeth Tower, LCW diverts inland R along Hollins Lane. Follow lane then take footpath L after 180m into NT woodland. Take R-hand path and in clearing, follow sign for ‘Silverdale Green via the Chase’. Footpath opens onto road. Turn R and continue 180m then take road L for 180m, then take track signed ‘Burton Well’. 10 11.5km/7¼ miles Continue past well into Lamberts Meadow, heading R over footbridge and into woodland again. Climb steeply up steps before path levels out then meets road. Turn R for 140m along road then take footpath L across golf course and R back to station via stile next to gate by greenkeeper’s shed.
