High Impact Projects Arising from the EnMS Process An ambitious project plan is key to achieving a healthy future for DePuy J&J Ireland An ambitious plan DePuy J&J Ireland have been active members of the energy agreements programme since its inception and were the first company to attain certification to EN16001 in September 2009. DePuy J&J Ireland currently hold ISO 50001 certification having transitioned last year. The focus of ISO 50001 fits well with the ethos of DePuy J&J Ireland as it focuses effort on continuous performance improvement, something which DePuy J&J as a company strive for in all aspects of operation. DePuy J&J Ireland utilise the energy management system structure to continuously identify improvement opportunities, culminating last year in an ambitious plan to make a major step change in both the energy performance and the sustainable sources of energy utilised by the organization through the implementation of a cross site improvement plan. This plan included the installation of a 400kWe CHP system, two 500kW biomass boilers, the optimisation of the HVAC system and the installation of a wireless energy metering system which will allow not only the performance of all projects to be verified in terms of the savings they achieve, but also the future operation of the plant to be monitored effectively by end users. This plan was supported by the DePuy Global sustainability team as well as the SEAI Better Energy Workplaces programme and it has delivered a 17% site energy reduction.
