DePuy J&J Ireland
An ambitious plan
DePuy J&J Ireland have been active members of the energy
agreements programme since its inception and were the first
company to attain certification to EN16001 in September
2009. DePuy J&J Ireland currently hold
ISO 50001 certification having transitioned last year. The
focus of ISO 50001 fits well with the ethos of DePuy J&J
Ireland as it focuses effort on continuous performance
improvement, something which DePuy J&J as a
company strive for in all aspects of operation.
DePuy J&J Ireland utilise the energy management
system structure to continuously identify improvement
opportunities, culminating last year in an ambitious plan
to make a major step change in both the energy performance
and the sustainable sources of energy utilised by the organization
through the implementation of a cross site improvement plan. This plan
included the installation of a 400kWe CHP system, two 500kW biomass boilers, the
optimisation of the HVAC system and the installation of a wireless energy metering
system which will allow not only the performance of all projects to be verified in
terms of the savings they achieve, but also the future operation of the plant to be
monitored effectively by end users. This plan was supported by the DePuy Global
sustainability team as well as the SEAI Better Energy Workplaces programme and it
has delivered a 17% site energy reduction.
