Week of 30th November, 2015
Reflections—Middle School—Grade 8
Viva La Masquerade
On December 2, 2015, Grades 6, 7, 8, and 9 gathered in the MPH-1 to witness the masquerade, ”Viva La Masquerade.” The children had
dressed up as famous artists and presented information on the same. The first presentation was on ‘Marlon Brando Jr.’, the lead actor in the
crime thriller, “The Godfather.”
It was followed by another Grade 7 student dressed up as ‘Paul McCartney,’ the main vocalist of the band ‘Beatles.’ The students gained valuable information on both, the life of an actor, and the history of the band Beatles.
It was then time for the most innovative and famous Italian personalities to make an entrance. A student clad in a long black robe and wearing
a snowy-white beard, representing ‘Leonardo Da Vinci,’ educated the children on his plethora of inventions. ‘Michelangelo’ on the other hand,
outlined his humble beginnings in Florence, before moving on to describe his most popular masterpiece-the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
The competition ended with Goosebumps’ author R.L. Stine and the rapper ‘Eminem,’ stealing the show. The audience was amused by R.L.
Stine’s words, that he started writing horror stories to scare his snide classmates. Eminem focused largely on how he had used his initials to
come up with his stage name.
To sum up the event, Ms. Suman Yadav then invited Ms. Dipti Raswant to share her views on the Masquerade. Ms. Raswant was appreciative of
student participation and encouraged them.

The Masquerade unfolds…
Artistically yours, is how we began our journey for the Founders 2015. While the school was beaming with activity, the student could take one
more opportunity in the stride. And hence began the preparation for the saga…
Keeping in mind the theme this year: Expression of heart and soul- Art around us. The idea germinated, and we diverged, spreading our wings
to create a formation that renders uniformity in grace and diversity to perspective. While Calvin and Hobbes set the stage for a mesmerising
array of dances around the globe; the playwrights got busy with the genesis of Indian modernist on Ramkinker Baij’s illustrious paintings; and
the busiest became our Masquerades.
Our Masquerades became the metaphors of all art performed on stage. The students of grade 6, 7 and 8 got busy with their own extensive
preparation for research and presentation, which included: costume, voice modulation and accessories. Each student carefully selected a
favourite personality and the art form the personality was associated with. With teacher assistance and internet research, the students made
a careful choice of the characters they would want to portray, in front of an audience.
Practice commenced, preparation unfolded and there we were, ready with the masquerade, excluding the likes of Michelangelo, Da Vinci,
Picaso, Akshay Kumar, James Bond, Taylor swift, to name a few.
On the day of the founders the Masquerade students were judged by a teacher panel, on the criteria: Costume, voice modulation, accessories,
dialogue/quotes. The winners were announced on stage. Later the masquerades walked their final walk for the peers, in MPH 1 on December
2, 2015 to mark the culmination of the journey… “Artistically Yours!”
