THE APPARITION OF OUR LADY OF LA SALETTE On September 19, 1846, a “Beautiful Lady” appeared to two shepherd children in the French Alps, near a village called La Salette. She was seated, her face buried in her hands, weeping. She rose, calming the children’s fears with her maternal voice. She told them the cause of her tears: disobedience to the laws of God and of the Church, blasphemy, failure to keep the Lord’s Day and lack of prayer. She wept also at the very grave consequences of these offenses for her people, but promised blessings to those who would return to God. The La Salette Missionaries were founded in 1852. Built on the site of a Shaker colony on the shores of Lake Mascoma, the Enfield Shrine features a facsimile (replica) of the Apparition site of La Salette in France. It is a place of prayer and meditation in a unique natural setting of peace and beauty. There is no charge for visiting the Shrine, but freewill contributions help maintain its programs and facilities. Travel Directions: La Salette Shrine is best reached from Exit 17 off of 1-89 in New Hampshire. From either direction turn right onto route 4. At the junction of Route 4-A (a little over 1 mile) bear right, follow route 4A for 3 miles to La Salette Shrine, on the right. GPS: use 410 NH Rte 4A, Enfield, NH.
