1. The shrink film has a smooth side and a rough side. Using the pencils
included in your kit, color on the rough side only. If you are writing a
word or a name, you will need to write it backwards.
2. Cut out the images along the dotted lines. Do not trim too close to the
designs. There should be extra space around the designs to help in the
shrinking process. When making a magnet, you may want to cut off the
extra space for the hole punch.
3. Use the hole punch to make a hole at the top of the design. When punching
a hole, position the tool far enough away from the edge so there is extra
plastic above the hole. If you want to turn some of your Shrinky Dinks into
magnets, you will not need to punch the hole.
Now you are ready to bake the Shrinky Dinks® in a
toaster oven or conventional oven.
• You can add some decorative beads to your bracelets and necklaces too.
When you are finished, tie the gel cord into a knot to keep them in place.
Follow the directions below carefully. Let them dance, curl, flip, shrink and
flatten. If you remove them too soon, your Shrinky Dinks won’t shrink!
Place them back in the oven until the shrinking process is complete.
• You can also remove the handle from your Shrinky Dinks box and turn it
into a cool friendship bracelet too.
Warning – Safety first. ADULT SUPERVISION is required
when baking Shrinky Dinks.
• If you have any leftover gel cord, use it to make key chains and decorative
dangles for your back pack. Just add the shrink charms and any leftover
beads. Tie the gel cord onto your house key or backpack.
• Preheat the oven to 350° (175° C). Do not use the microwave.
• Cover your baking tray with non-stick aluminum foil. For best results do not
use an air insulated cookie sheet. Place your Shrinky Dinks on the tray with
the colored side facing up. Be sure they are at least 3 inches from each other.
• Bake for 1 to 3 minutes. Watch closely, baking times may vary depending
on your oven. The Shrinky Dinks will begin to curl, move about and flatten.
Do not remove them until they are flat!
• Keep the tray in the oven for about 20 more seconds, and then ask an adult
to remove them and place them on a heat proof surface.
• Allow the Shrinky Dinks to cool on the tray for 10 minutes. When they are
cool enough to touch, use a spatula to lift them off.
Awesome Accessories
To make necklaces, bracelets, cell phone charms and other accessories, you will
need to attach jump rings to your Shrinky Dinks. When making gel cord
necklaces and bracelets, measure the cord against your wrist and neck, allowing
a few extra inches to tie your knots.
• Take one of the jump rings and pull it apart slightly to make a gap.
• Push the jump ring through the hole at the top of the Shrinky Dink.
• Attach the jump ring with the Shrinky Dink hanging from it to the gel
cord, and cell phone charms. Squeeze the jump ring and close the gap so
the Shrinky Dink will not fall off. Helpful Hint – add a dot of craft glue
over the gap. This will help keep it closed.
Magnetic Attraction
Use the adhesive back magnetic sheeting to turn your Shrinky Dinks into cool
decorations for your locker or any metal surface. Just peel off the backing and
then press the magnet firmly into place.
Cool Clips
Use the adhesive backed dots to add Shrinky Dinks to your hair clips. Remove
the adhesive backing and press them firmly into place. Be sure the adhesive is
covered by the hair clip and Shrinky Dink charms so that it does not get stuck
in your hair. Save any extra adhesive in case the adhesive needs to be replaced.
