beginning at 9:30 a.m. Please RSVP if you

My name is Kyle Hantz.
I am a retired civil engineer, a member here
at City Point UMC, and the committee chairperson for the sanctuary
construction project.
First, I would like to thank each of you for your generous contributions,
and commitments to the Turning Point Campaign. We would like to
bring you up-to-date on the progress, so far, of our efforts for the
sanctuary remodeling.
We began by hiring an architecture firm last December. The architect began design work in midJanuary to produce construction drawings and specifications. They completed the design effort in
mid-March, and on March 22, these documents were sent to the City of North Richland Hills to obtain a construction permit. The city’s building department will hopefully have their review completed by next week.
Once the city gives us the green light to proceed, we will then be soliciting bids from general
construction contractors. We anticipate that a construction contract will be issued in late May, and
work will begin in June.
Thank you for your patience during this process and we will keep you informed as our progress continues. Thank you.
An Invitation from the Mid-Cities Social Justice Team
For those of you who do not know, Rev. Amy Tate-Almy and Jeff
James are both members of the Mid-Cities Social Justice Team. This
team is for anyone in the mid-cities who is interested in tackling social
justice issues from a faith-based perspective. Founded by several
members of the FUMC Hurst congregation, it is, however, an ecumenical team. Currently, we are looking at two specific issues: re-entry issues facing those who have been incarcerated and predatory lending
practices. On Monday, May 22, the Mid-Cities Social Justice Team
is meeting at 6:30 p.m. at FUMC Hurst to host guest speaker, Mike
Doyle. This is an open, community meeting and all are encouraged to attend. Mr. Doyle will be discussing
multiple problems faced by families of the incarcerated and roadblocks faced by those previously incarcerated
re-entering mainstream society. FUMC Hurst has asked for a head-count, so please email me at
[email protected] or leave a message for me in the church office so I can help them have an accurate
count. If anyone wants to carpool, I will be attending this meeting and would be happy to drive.
Conference News ~ Engage: Transforming Missions
Mark your calendar NOW for October 6 and 7 for this conference
event to help churches transform into a missional congregation. This
special event will be held at FUMC Temple the first weekend of October. It has a wonderful speaker line-up including key-note presenter
Tom Bassford. Every church in the CTC is invited to come learn and
share ideas and techniques for growing the church’s mission work into
transforming ministries that actively make disciples of Jesus Christ! I
hope our mission team members will make this a priority. I encourage
all church members who are interested to attend, even if you are only
able to attend Saturday. There are a variety of small break-out sessions with numerous topics and presenters,
including, but not limited to, information on school partnerships, human trafficking, community gardens and
financial ministries. In case you were wondering, Rev. Amy Tate-Almy is leading the session on financial
ministries! Check it all out at www.ctumc.org/engage.
