A Message from Fr Mark White
In the run- up to the EU Referendum, the issue
of immigration looms large and there is a lot of
negativity about it in the press and other
media. This is my personal experience since
having a triple bypass in S George's Hospital,
Tooting, London 7 weeks ago. The surgeon was
from Iran and at least three of her close team
members were from the Indian subcontinent.
My discharge papers were signed by an Italian
registrar. One (outstanding) staff nurse on the
ward was from Estonia. The meals were served
by a Nigerian man and a Romanian woman. In
the care home in Canterbury where I spent five
weeks recovering from the operation there was
a rota of six nurses. Two were English, one Irish
and the others were Romanian, Portuguese and
Spanish. I experienced excellent care
throughout and ask myself where the NHS and
the care system would we if immigration were
to be drastically restricted… Mark cp

Sunday of the Year
(Year C)
Jim Finlinson R.I.P
Please pray for the repose of Jim Finlinson who died in Cramlington
Hospital on Sunday 12 June at the age of 72. The requiem mass for
Jim will take place on Thursday 23 June at 11am in St. Elizabeth’s,
followed by burial in the Minsteracres Cemetery. May he rest in
peace. Pray also for Mary and Jim’s family during this sad time.
Martin Bell – Diaconate Ordination
Martin was ordained yesterday in St. Mary’s Cathedral. It was a
very proud day for Martin and his family and he was supported by
many of his friends in the Parish. We pray for Martin and look
forward to his future ministry in our midst. Many thanks to those
who attended the parish celebration here last evening.
Friends who wish to contribute towards a collection to mark
Martin’s ordination can use one of the envelopes available at the
back of Church.
Ignatian Contemplation - Tuesday 21st June 7.30pm
In the Ignatian tradition, praying with the imagination is called
contemplation. This is a pillar of the Ignatian spiritual tradition and
involves taking a passage from scripture, usually one of the
gospels, and then immersing yourself in it imaginatively using all
the senses. You feel the heat of the day, smell the livestock and
clouds of dust on the road, listen to Jesus’ words, watch his
actions. It’s a way to engage the gospel personally, with all of our
faculties. We hope to run these sessions weekly but to perhaps
gauge interest and give people a sense of how this prayer method
might work for them we will be holding an introduction session
this Tuesday at 7.30 pm in the library. All are welcome
House Mass - Friday 24th June 7.30pm
Badgers Gill, Batt House Road, Stocksfield, NE43 7QZ
Over the coming months we hope to hold a series of house masses
across the parish. Everyone is welcome and we hope these will
allow parishioners to come together to celebrate the Eucharist.
The first will be held in Susan and David’s house in Stocksfield at
7.30pm this Friday. Please do try to come along.
Cathedral Closure – Essential Maintenance
The Cathedral will be closed from Tue 21 June – Fri 24 June
inclusive. This is to enable essential maintenance work to take
place which, for reasons of public safety, cannot be undertaken
whilst the Cathedral is open.
Please pray for the sick of the Parish.

Prayer
Glory be to the father –
in whom we live and move and have our being.
Glory be to the Son
whose name we bear,
and who calls each of us to be disciples;
to build his Kingdom and to go out into the world and bear its fruit.
Glory be to the Holy Spirit
pouring out grace and guidance, forming us and renewing us.
Inspire us all in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle
to live the Gospel, to be open to change
and to move forward together in hope. Amen

Summer Fayre - Saturday 9 July 2015
Summer is here and our fayre is only a month away! This is a lovely day out for
parishioners, friends of Minsteracres and locals, some visiting our beautiful
church, house and grounds for the first time. There will be live music, craft
demonstrations, many stalls, hot and cold snacks and drinks, children’s games,
ice cream and the Grand Draw. All money raised will go towards the Retreat
House refurbishment. As always, we can’t do this without your help, so please:
1. Bring in non-perishable donations labelled for Fayre from now on: books,
bottles, toys, new unused items for gifts/tombola, jewellery and accessories
including scarves (no bric-a-brac or clothes, please, but clothes always welcome
labelled for 5p bus)
2. Cakes, preserves and plants (all individually labelled) can be brought in the
day before (ask if you need help with this); donate any unwanted plant pots to
be used for potting up plants for sale, now
3. Buy and sell raffle tickets – plenty at back of church
4. Please volunteer if you can give us any time on fayre day or setting up, day
before. Please leave your details with anyone from the social committee. Even
an hour or two will help. Your Social Committee: Margo & Katie Mooney, Celia
Port, Susan Collins, Mavis & Jimmy Harris, Camille Mazarelo, Ann Darlington,
