Bees – ‘ie’ and ‘ea’ sounds Butterflies – ‘oi’ sound Caterpillars – ‘oa’ sound Numeracy This week the children will be focusing on recognising and naming common 3d solids including cubes, cuboids, prisms, cylinders, spheres, cones, square and triangular based pyramids . Go Mental for Maths This terms Go Mental for Maths Targets are: I know my number bonds to 5 I know my number bonds to 10 I know my number bonds to 20 We would very much appreciate your help in reinforcing the children’s learning of these targets at home. Home Learning th Home Learning Monday 10 November This week your child will be investigating 3d shapes. Their home learning is to explore at home or when outdoors and see how many 3d shapes they can find in the world around them, for example a cake tin that might be a cylinder! Could your child record their findings by either writing a list of shapes they can find, or by drawing or photographing the objects? Can they describe to you how they know a shape is a cuboid or a cone etc? They could write about a shape under its picture describing it in either everyday language or by using mathematical terms Reading ~ All the children should now have a ‘banded’ reading books and a ‘Monkey Book’. These banded books are specifically designed to support the children with their reading. Their monkey books are used to record any reading they do in and out of school, so we would be grateful if you could make a quick note of any reading they do at home. In the front of their Monkey Books they will have a target card which shows all the areas they need to cover before they can move to a different band. Please remind your children to change their books if they have read them several times. Now that your child is in year 1 we do expect them to be responsible and change their books independently. Spellings ~ All the children should now have a spelling book. The spellings are chosen to reinforce the sounds and tricky words taught in phonics. Other key and topic words will also be included in the spellings. The spelling test will take place every Friday in the back of their books and new spellings put in the front for the following week. High Frequency words ~ All the children should now have a High Frequency Word (HFW) list. These lists contain some of the most regularly used words in the English language so it is really important that the children know these by sight as they occur so frequently in their books. When your child knows the list (by sight) then please ask your child to return their sheet to school, with their name at the top, and give it to Mrs Compton. She will then test them and if possible, move them onto the next list. Your child will receive a certificate for every list they achieve in Celebration Assembly. Reminder- Library day is Wednesday. -This half term P.E will be on Wednesdays and Fridays. Photograph Table- this half term we have a photograph table instead of a topic table to link in with our topic. If your child would like to bring in a photo of their pet (or grandparent pets, etc) we would love to share them with the class! Many thanks, Ms Holman and Miss Priest
