Homecoming 2015-16—“Drops of Jupiter”
ary 9, was the Homecoming dance
from 7-10pm. The theme for
Homecoming was Drops Of Jupiter
and the decorations were beautiful. Kyle and Liz shared their King
and Queen dance to the song
Drops Of Jupiter. There was good
music, snacks, and drinks. This
year's Homecoming was a lot of
fun and I'm sure everyone else
would agree!

Teacher Talk: MR. SHELTON, JR. HIGH SCIENCE
This week’s Teacher Talk features Mr. Shelton. He received
his Bachelors of Science in Agriculture at The Ohio State University and his Masters of Education
at Xavier University. This is Mr.
Shelton’s 11th year teaching. He
decided to become a teacher
because he enjoys working with
young people and helping shape
their lives. His most memorable
moments while teaching are
when students are trying really
hard to understand a concept
and they finally get it. The Ohio
State Buckeyes are Mr. Shelton’s
favorite sports team. He enjoys
listening to all types of music and
his favorite food is steak and potatoes. Mr. Shelton has been married
for 11 years and has 2 daughters.
When he isn’t teaching, he spends
his time raising cattle and working
on the family farm.

Senior Spotlight: KYLE MARLER
This week’s Senior Spotlight is
on Kyle Marler. Kyle is the son of
Desiree and Keith Marler. After
high school, Kyle’s plan is to go
to UC-Clermont and major in
Computer Science, then transfer
to UC-Clifton to finish his bachelors.
Kyle’s dream occupation would
be to be a professional athlete.
His favorite memory here at
Whiteoak is winning Homecoming
King. Mr. Veidt is Kyle’s favorite
teacher because “his classes are
always entertaining , even when we
never got a free day. He is always
there for me if I need advice on a
decision.
Kyle would also like to add “You
better take it.”

Books on Buses
The Whiteoak Task Force would like to
begin a program named B.O.B. This
stands for Books on Buses. We will
have a book collection here at
Whiteoak, Bright Elementary, the local
churches, businesses and
organizations. We will then put a crate
of new and gently used books on each
of the school buses. As you and the
elementary kids get on the bus, you
can take a book to read or look at.
Why not read to a younger child next to
you? Feel free to take the book home
to finish then bring it back...this will
work on the honor system. PLEASE bring in some books to help with this
program. Make sure you get your parent's permission to donate them. This
program has raised the reading levels and decreased bus discipline
problems in the Columbus City Schools. Let's try to help our kids develop
an interest in reading! Thank you so much. Books can be turned in to Miss
Hahn's room and at other areas in town. Thank you and we hope you'll
enjoy looking through a book or two. More information will be coming soon.

NFL Playoffs Update
This weekend is the divisional round of the NFL
playoffs. The first game this weekend, will be
played Saturday at 4:35 pm and will feature the
Kansas City Chiefs taking on the New England
Patriots. Later that day at 8:15 p.m. the Green
Bay Packers play the Arizona Cardinals. On
Sunday at 1:05 p.m, the sixth-seeded Seattle Seahawks play the
number one- seeded Carolina Panthers. Later that day at 4:40 p.m. the
Pittsburgh Steelers play the Denver Broncos. Last week the Texans,
Bengals, Vikings, and Redskins all got eliminated. It was the first time in
NFL history that in the Wild Card Round all of the home teams were
defeated. The Bengals lost to the Steelers, 18-16, after an A.J. Green
touchdown. An injured Ben Roethlisberger came back into the game
and lead the Steelers down the field. The drive was aided by a couple of
key penalties by the Bengal defense, which set-up a Chris Boswell field
goal. Hopefully the Steelers can keep their hot streak up.

The St. Louis Rams will be moving back to Los
Angeles. The San Diego Chargers get the first option
to move with them. The owners voted 30-2 for the
Rams to move. This will be the third team leaving the
city of St. Louis. The Rams have been playing there
since 1995. The city feels betrayed for them leaving. The new stadium
for the team will be completed in 2019. They will temporarily be
playing at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
