For some people it is always allergy season! In one way or another, allergies and related asthma afect nearly 50 percent of
Americans who cough, sneeze
and wheeze in response to their
environment. Though it’s a litle
late to ind spring allergy relief
through prescripion medicaions, you can take stock of allergy treatments and get a head
start before hay fever season arrives mid-August.
Allergy symptoms are your body’s
natural response to invading micro-organisms such as pollen,
dust mites, animal dander, molds,
foods and fragrances. When you
come in contact with these micro-organisms, your body releases chemicals like histamines to
atack and destroy the invaders.
The defensive atack can come in
the form of watery eyes, a runny
or stufy nose, rashes, cough or
wheezing. Because seasonal allergy reacions can lead to asthma and sinus infecions, it’s best
to be proacive and keep your
symptoms under control.
During your allergy season, you
can help reduce your sensiivity
by skipping hair mousses, gels,
sprays and other products. These
are pollen magnets that bring the
ofending micro-organisms into
your home and even onto your
If you don’t already have a prescripion, now is a good ime to

Allergies are commonly treated
with anihistamines which stop
the release of histamines to eliminate or lessen your symptoms. A
relaively new product that can
help individuals who only experience nasal symptoms is a nasal
anihistamine spray. Available
with a prescripion, this treatment has the beneit of addressing nasal congesion, running and
dripping.
An advantage of anihistamine
sprays is they only need to be
used as needed. Nasal steroid
sprays must be used every day
for maximum efeciveness, and
oral anihistamines are systemic
meaning the medicine afects
all parts of your body and may
have side efects like hyperness,
drowsiness or urinary retenion
in men.
Another relaively new class of
medicaions that can beneit individuals who are not fond of receiving allergy shots is called sublingual immunotherapy. These
