_____ Compliant with mathematical formatting requirements:
 Italicize Roman letters used in mathematical expressions as variable. Roman letters used
as part of multi-letter function names should not be italicized. Whenever possible,
subscripts and superscripts should be a smaller font size than the main text.
 Type short mathematical expressions inline. Longer expressions should appear as
display math. Also expressions using many different levels (e.g., such as the fractions)
should be set as display math. Important definitions or concepts can also be set off as
display math.
 Number equations should be numbered sequentially. Whether equation numbers are
on the right or left are the choice of the author(s). However, the author is expected to
be consistent.
 Avoid symbols and notation in unusual fonts. This will not only enhance the clarity of
the manuscript, but it will also help ensure that it displays correctly on the reader's
screen and prints correctly.
 Pay attention to rendering of the mathematics when proofing the PDF version of the
document, especially symbols and notation drawn from other than standard fonts

 Use Times New Roman font, 12 pt.
 Give credit to figures or tables used with permission from others
 Provide legends of 40 words or less for figures
 Use Arabic, not Roman, numerals
 Provide numeric data on graphs
 Refrain from redundancy. Data from tables and graphs are not necessary in the text
 Provide only high-quality figures that enhance understanding of the work
 Create a footnote with the full terms of any abbreviations used in tables
 Maintain patient’s privacy in accordance with permissions granted
 Use High resolution figures, preferably saved in .eps, .ppt, .indd, or .ai formats. Avoid
the .vsd format.
