Our teaching and learning linked to the Tudors, Shakespeare and the past will be brought alive! Children will be able to come to school dressed in Tudor clothes, make Tudor bread, create artwork based on the 'Tudor rose' and there will be Tudor dancing and of course Shakespeare inspired drama! Even our school dinner will be Shakespeare themed - please see below and book in the usual way. Our finale assembly (2.45pm start) will showcase Class R's Talk for Writing, Class 1's Henry VIII drama, Class 2's Shakespeare language and Class 3's dance. There will then be a final whole school song linked to A Midsummer Night's Dream. Thanks. —————————————————————————————————————————————————— Information Event: Tuesday 2nd May, 3.20—4.15pm We will be attending, and require _______ places. We will not be attending (delete as appropriate) We would like _________ Egloskerry pupil crèche places. Please return by Friday 31st March. Signed: Name: The last day of term is next Friday, 31st March, and we will be welcoming the children back into school on Tuesday 18th April. We hope you all have an enjoyable and fun Easter break—we might even get some sunshine! The children will be having fun on Friday 31st March at our Easter Egg Hunt! Thanks to Mrs Barnard for obtaining the Easter Eggs for us, and to all the staff for organising this event. Children’s Safety—EYFS Area: We would be very grateful if all parents/carers could ensure that they do not enter the EYFS area (the gated garden area which includes the cob shelter outside Class R) just before, or at, the end of the school day. We have had some parents, carers and young children either going through the area, or children playing there whilst the Class R children are getting ready for home time. All the Class R children need to be collected from the archway on the playground area, not from the EYFS or class area, to ensure safeguarding at all times. At the end of the day Miss Hawkey and Miss Thomas are busy getting the children ready, and it is vital that they know that the whole class is together and children are not being collected from the wrong place, or having adults and pre-school children in the classroom. If you need to see a member of staff, or come back in to collect a forgotten item, you are very welcome, but please enter via the main reception door. Thank you very much for your co-operation with this important issue. We had some extra guests at our Mother’s Day Lunch—it was lovely to see the mums, carers and grans who were able to attend this event. A huge “thank you” goes to Mrs Gumbrell for cooking the lovely meal with her helper, Mrs Sargent, and to our lunchtime and office staff for organising the extra number of diners! Please see the information on our website about Aspens Services’ new app, which will enable you to see the lunch menu with just a couple of presses on your smartphone. Egloskerry’s unique PIN number is: 18305882, and the link is: aspens-services.co.uk/schools/egloskerry-cp-school/ You can search for the app at the App Store or Google Play, install, add the unique PIN number, and you will be able to view the menu, get in touch with Aspens, provide feedback and find out more about their services. He has now completed his teacher training degree and had a very successful final placement. He has been incredibly pro-active and enthusiastic in all areas of teaching and learning, particularly with his PE subject specialism. He will be sorely missed by Class 1 and the whole school, and we would like to wish him the best of luck with his future teaching career. We have also been joined this week by two other students, Shannon and Amelia, as part of their 'saturation week'. They have been immersed in a range of school activities, carrying out observations and gaining experience of day-to-day life in a smaller school. As always it is very eye-opening for both the students and us as we learn from each other, sharing experiences of schools and discussing best practice. Again, we wish you luck with your future studies and thank you for your hard work this week. Last week, Classes 2 and 3 went to the National Trust’s Cotehele for a school trip. The sun was shining as Class 3 walked down from the house to the mill to make Tudor bread and take part in a quiz around the mill area. Class 2 were shown around the Tudor house dressed as either rich or poor children from the Tudor period. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day! Class 1 had an amazing trip to Rosemoor Gardens on Tuesday and the sun shone all day. The children created wonderful water colour paintings and got to explore the beautiful gardens. Thank you to all the staff who organised and made the trip possible. Health Box: We have children attending the school who are prone to picking up infections more easily, so we thought it may be a good idea to include a health box in our weekly newsletter. We would ask if parents could please inform the school of any infections, viruses or diarrhoea and vomiting that your child may have, as you usually do. Could you please also inform us of any of the above which your children may have been in contact with recently without showing any symptoms, so that we are all aware. Please remember that all children should be at home for 48 hours following sickness or diarrhoea. Thank you. A note regarding Hearing and Vision Tests: It is very important to ensure your child does not have any problems with their hearing or vision. Screening is carried out in school, by the NHS, for Reception age children, but do please get in touch with your doctor or the School Nurse if you would like tests done at any other time. To contact the Nurse, phone 01288 320152. For vision tests, please contact your local optician, as tests are carried out free of charge for children. If you would like a referral to the School Nurse, please ask at the school office. Headlice: if necessary, please see the information on our website about the treatment of headlice. Medicines/Cough Sweets etc: please could all medicines, cough sweets, antiseptic creams etc be brought to the office, labelled with the child’s name. We can administer medicines during the school day; we just need your instructions (a form is available to complete). Any medication kept in a bookbag or rucsac during the day could be picked up by another child, who might be allergic to it. Your child is also welcome to come to the office at break times to take a cough sweet etc. Thank you. “Signposting” information to parents—Disclaimer: All providers have confirmed that they hold all necessary accreditation, qualifications and insurance to organise and run the events and activities described.
