MATHS
1. Prepare a Ppt. on the life sketch of “Great Indian Mathematician”(Any one)
 Bring it in a pen drive after the school reopens.
i) Aryabhatt
ii) Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan.
iii) Shakuntala Devi
The Ppt. must include the following points:
a. When and where was the mathematician born?
b. Where did he study?
c. Where did he teach?
d. How he discovered new ideas?
e. His contribution in the history of Mathematics.
2. Explore your creativity Make 3-D shapes using different
geometrical shapes. For eg. Train, Joker etc. (try to construct
something new instead of things given in example).
Make at least one such 3-D shape.
3. PROJECT:
Topic : TANGRAM
History:
A long time ago in China, there lived a man called Tan. Tan possessed a fine square
green coloured tile of hard stone. One day he was carrying it to show the Emperor.
He tripled and the tile fell and broken into seven pieces in geometrical shapes of two large triangles, a
medium size triangle, two small triangles, one square and one parallelogram. Tan spent a lot of time to put
tiles back together again. He was not successful, but he did succeed in creating many different enjoyable
designs. These designs made by Tan are now called Tangrams.
The invention of the tangram puzzle is unrecorded in history. China, is the
country of its origin. The earliest known Chinese book is dated 1813 but the
puzzle was very old by then. Tangram game flooded Europe and America in the
early 19th century.
Description:
 Cut a piece of square sheet abjh of size 10cm x 10cm.
 Join one of the diagonals hb. Find its midpoint d.

Find midpoints of hd and db as f and c. Join ad. Find midpoint L of EF. Also find midpoint i of hj
and midpoint e of bj. Join fi, dg, cg




Cut all the figures so obtained using cutter and ruler. Thus we obtain 2 large triangles, 2 small triangles
and 1 medium triangle, one square and one parallelogram as shown in figure.
Cut similar figures from 7 different colours and take 7 pieces of different colours.
Now join the pieces as shown in figures, shown ahead and create new ones as many as you can. More
than 300 figures have been developed so far. These are called tangram puzzles.
Enjoy making atleast 3-5 tangrams on your own. Don‟t forget to safely keep it in your folder to be
brought to school after the vacations.
4. Come, lets learn about different types of angles !!!
A) Take an A-4 Sheet, paste broom sticks/ straws/ ice cream stick to make two parallel lines m II n and a transversal p
which intersect both the parallel lines. Then using a sketch pen, mark all the angles that you can identify. Now, write
all pairs of corresponding angles, alternate interior angles, vertical opposite angles and linear pairs.
b) Angles are found in numerous ways in the nature. Identify 10 such examples in your surroundings that involve
angles. Paste their pictures and also identify the angles as acute/ obtuse/ right/ straight/ reflex.
The alphabets given below will help you to identify the pair of angles.
Z
Alternate angles
F
Corresponding angles
T
Linear pair

2.
Study the graph and answer the
questions given below :
a) What is the total distance
covered by the body?
b) What is the total distance
covered by the end of 10s ?
c) What was the speed of the
body between 5 and 10s ?
d) What is the speed of the body
in the first 5s ?
e) If the motion of the body
remains the same after 15 s,
what will be the total distance
covered by the end of 25s ?
3. Numericals:
a. A car takes 20 min to cover a distance of 15km. Calculate the speed in km/h.
b. A police dog runs after the scent of a thief at a speed of 5m/sec. How long would it take to reach the
thief, if he is hiding at a place 62m from the starting point of the dog?
c. A fish swims across the width of an 18m wide river in 6 sec. what is the speed of the fish?
d. A maruti car travelled a distance of 120 km in 3 hours, while a zen car travelled a distance of 150 km in
4hours. Which car was moving faster?
e. Mr. Sharma takes 25min to reach his office from home by car. If he travels with a speed of 60 km/h.
Calculate the distance between his office and his home. Calculate the distance in km and m.
4. Make a model of simple pendulum and calculate its time period and frequency.
Tie a small stone with a thin string and prepare a simple pendulum. Now for a fixed length of string
(say 30 cm) find the time period and frequency of the pendulum. Also find out whether the time period
increases/ decreases with the increase/ decrease in the length of the pendulum.
BIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY
INSTRUCTIONS
The holiday home-work consists of activities, scrap book making, cross word puzzle and write up/facts for science
magazine. This is a part of your FA2 activity and has a weightage of 20 marks i.e. scrap book (5 marks), Activity
(5 marks),cross word puzzle (3) and write up/facts (5 marks).
 2 marks will be awarded for submission on time.
You will duly submit all of this on 4th of July 2014. Marks will be deducted for any delay in the submission of the
home work.
1. Pot a plant or adopt a tree- Cutting down of tree is a major concern for mankind. Choose a tree near your
house and adopt it( Take care of it, protect it from being eaten by cattle, wire fencing can be done, water the
plant daily and add manure once in a month)
Prepare a scrap book about it.
Hints to prepare the scrap book:

 Draw a picture or click a photographs of tree that are useful for the others.(man sitting under the shade
of the trees, medicinal value, fruits ,birds nesting.
 Find out and write its name in Hindi ,different languages and scientific name of the plant
 Trace bark of the tree on A4 Sheet you can use colour pencil or crayon.
 Click or paste pictures of a few items manufactured from forest products.
2. ACTIVITY - Prepare a solution of soap and then add a few drops of turmeric solution to it. Now add vinegar
drop by drop using a dropper. Shake the solution every time you add vinegar. What happens after sometime?
Write down your observations and explain the reaction taking place.

making the crossword. Also take a print out (hand written) of the crossword generated by you.
4. The Science department is planning to start a Science newsletter shortly. For making this happen Bring
 Articles
 amazing facts
 Riddles
 cross-word puzzles
 recent discoveries in the field of Science ( minimum 4 discoveries)
Note: Every child has to bring any two information from the above mentioned list.
