The organization started out very small and grew steadily for the next twenty years. Gail Mills started the program under the name of Project Worth {Writing or Reading Together Helps}. People learned to read and families took part in the Family Literacy Program. Children were given books to take home to read. Many donations were given to the program. Everything that was donated went to families to help them. In 1994 the Outreach part of the program was added to include a food pantry and a clothing bank. The program also has GED classes in addition to family literacy. Project Worth houses the only GED center in Menifee County. Gail has been the program director for the entire twenty years and does it all as a volunteer. Gail received the 1000 points of light award for community service on August 8, 1992. The program comes to the aid of 600 families each year, not including the dozens of students that study for and received the GED certificate each year. Impact Statement Accomplishments from the past year: 1. Received funding from two grants for Project Worth. 2. Received FEMA money for food for the pantry. 3. Fed 100 families each month from the food pantry. 4. Provided food and Christmas gifts for 92 needy children that would have fallen through the cracks. Children had pictures with Santa. 5. Sponsored the Menifee County Grandparents Support group. They were trained how to care for children suddenly put in their home to care for permanently. Three goals for the current year: 1. Plans are to continue seeking program funding. 2. To enlarge the outreach part of our program. 3. Will continue to provide assistance to children in need, especially in the reading literacy project. For twenty-five we have been fortunate enough to meet the needs in this area. We feel that the opportunity to help these will continue because the general public knows that we are in the business of helping families. 11 Documents Form 990s Form 990 990 EZ 990EZ 2013 990EZ 2012 990EZ 990 2008 -990 2007 - 990 2006 -990 Created 06.14.2017.
